I programmed RISCON on my WS 1065 using ARC 500. I selected all North, East and South sites and then selected Talkgroups for specific cities and towns in Rhode Island. The conventional channels I added come in fine. I really only want to hear North Kingstown Fire and East Greenwich Fire (recently converted to RISCON), but I don't get either. I have heard Newport, but just barely. The antenna I am using is the one that the WS 1065 comes with. I live in East Greenwich. Should I just give up on my Whistler or could I be doing something wrong? I can see the control channel frequencies in the Trunk System list in ARC 500, but should I be adding the other 8XX mhz frequencies associated with the sites?

Whistler scanners are not designed to deal with simulcast very well, or at all really. Location might help, directional or smaller antennas might help, but really there is no guarantee. The only scanners designed for simulcast are the SDS100 and 200, you can also use SDR dongles with software or a Unication pager.

There are a number of tips in the RR wiki you can try with your scanner, but there is nothing that works all the time.

Please attach your ARC500 .gr5 programming file so I can take a look at it. You will need to zip the file to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and open the zipped file.

Welcome to the RR forums. Read up on what simulcast distortion is and ways you can try and mitigate it via the wiki link above this posting, you may or may not find a method that works for you. I'll echo the recommendations RaleighGuy made in post #2
