• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi all I'm fairly new to using radio reference with chirp so i setup a paid account here to use the database and just was so excited i just plugged in my user name and password on chirp did the download from source and after a few minutes i got well over 5000 radio stations and it will be a very painful task to go through the entire list and be able to program the 128 memories in my Baofeng radio can anyone here offer me advice on how to make this task much more simple for me as i just want a local weather station on the top and its skipped from scanning and then the 2 meter and 70 centimeter Ham station first a few simplex calling freqs then the repeaters after those then the GMRS/FRS and finally the police fire and public service and have those set in a way as so i don't transmit to them by mistake i did see a few videos on YouTube but must have shown a older version of chirp since in mine there is no way to filter out what radio refferance downloads to chirp thanks very much for all the help i can get.

I would suggest you watch a youtube video so you can learn - or read the howto guide
You can search further from there on what you're trying to do - use keywords not sentences for better results.

Every time I try to do a direct download from the chirp software I have the dilemma of getting the entire database on the zip code that I entered when I may only be looking for the ham radio 2 meter 70 center meter frequency or just Gmrs/from or Commercial for example and I am tired of having to spend a very long time going through 50 million different frequency and modes can anyone get me to a good faq

You can only download the categories that Chirp offers, then it will download all possibilities and you need to sort through them. There is no way to modify the list of frequencies before download, it is all or nothing based on the group of frequencies you are requesting.

that's not at all helpful since all i am able to do is download the entire California database and it does not let you lets say for example just get 2 meter and 70 centimeter FM repeaters it gives everything for the state and every type of service and i have been going through it and so far has taken me well over 3 months to do and i still am not able to get just the 128 freq's i want and it will take a lifetime to go through it is there a way i can set it up on the website so when i go to chirp i will only have the exactly what i need when i go back to chirp with my user name and password so i dont have to download 50 million items and that would make life much easier for me thanks and 73s N2vgc

Since it downloads based on zip code you aren't getting the entire California database.

Yes, it lets you download just the ham repeaters in the bands you want.

i have been going through it and so far has taken me well over 3 months to do and i still am not able to get just the 128 freq's i want

Perhaps you should type in the 128 frequencies you want into a CSV file and import them, rather than relying on one of the database imports if it has taken you 3 months.
