Last week I ran a project to automatically log the number of hits on all the business frequencies I have programmed in to my scanner over three days. The results of the top 25 most active frequencies are below, these results exclude all the 000 services, airband and UHF CB frequencies.

474.77500 - UNI SECURITY (1994)
464.37500 - METRO (RSIDE) (1825)
162.61250 - TASRAIL MTARTHUR (1622)
163.05000 - REDLINE BUSES (1251)
78.31250 - LCC WORKS (924)
78.28750 - LCC WORKS (685)
78.47500 - FORESTRY TAS (657)
163.43750 - TOX FREE (633)
79.47500 - FORESTRY TAS (627)
70.32500 - ABILITY TAXIS PTY LTD (621)
78.01250 - WTC WORKS (587)
474.37500 - LCC PARKING (498)
474.22500 - LCC MUSEUM (394)
494.92500 - LCC SWIMMING (368)
72.27500 - LES WALKDEN (357)
162.50000 - BORAL (321)
77.65000 - TECS (289)
474.12500 - WARREN J SPEERS (268)
488.55000 - MW COMMS (226)
161.07500 - ARTEC (219)
492.60000 - LTON COLLEGE (187)
485.25000 - MW COMMS (184)
77.88750 - ARMAGUARD (178)
467.17500 - TECS (165)
72.02500 - ACC SERVICES (155)

As you can see from the results above, three frequencies stand out as being the most active over this time period. Looking at the graph below provides a visual representation of this. After the top group of frequencies (UNI SECURITY (1994), METRO (RSIDE) (1825) and TASRAIL MTARTHUR (1622)) it drops off to REDLINE BUSES (1251) and LCC WORKS (924) with a group of seven between 500 and 600 hits. After this it tapers off slowly.

From this I have noticed a few things:
- The top four users were as I expected, given my own experience of how active they are on the air.
- Of late I have noticed 78.31250 - LCC WORKS much more active, especially of a morning and this is reflected in the results.
- 70.32500 - ABILITY TAXIS PTY LTD with 621 hits is a lot higher than I was expecting given how much I hear them when I am scanning the bands.
- The Launceston City Council frequencies of 474.225,474.375 and 494.925MHz were all logged with much the same levels of traffic, this I found surprising as normally I don't hear 474.225MHz that active.
