It'll be all about politics (and then cost)...centralized dispatch and common use frequencies have been a vision of some since I was part of the old OC Rescue squad, back then no one could agree
Can't wait to see how the north end of the county responds...they have been very insular for years
Look what happened in Atlantic County...huge centralized 911 dispatch area planned for ACY and it fell apart when all of the political jurisdictions could come to an agreement
Always said that this part of SJ continues to languish in the 18th century

I'll believe i twhen I see it. This is just like the county trunked system that still has the be builted out to cover the entire county

Well...unless some one funds a 700 or 800 MHz mobile/portable radio switch for the entire county...it will be one big 15X.XXX band system...some of these townships/cities etc are already cash strapped
Of course you have some services already encrypting FM and OC on the Provoice System with Atlantic County...what a logistics night mare...they would need 10 dispatchers each shift on fire/ems just to deal with all of the disparate systems..PD would be even worse
To be honest, I live in Upper...I wouldn't support a huge township expenditure to upgrade off of the system we have now...I'd rather the money be spent on developing a PD or enhancing the in-place fire/rescue system
The centralized county concept is a noble idea....but no one has planned to move this direction; in fact almost the opposite

Doesn't the SO use the NJ ICS ? Maybe they will go that route.

I foresee some townships go to NJICS and the rest VHF until the county gets a nice grant for all entities to go 700mhz. Might even see FD going to county dispatch sooner than later. Just a hunch.
The north will go as OC goes...and I don't see them giving up their dispatch center any time soon...which means Upper stays as well since they have the shared services agreement. Dennis, Middle and SIC..who knows

OC just sunk a ton of $$$ a few years ago to be on the Atlantic County EDACS (with PD ProVoice) so I don't see them agreeing to spend even more money...OC and Upper have strong mutual aid agreements and it provides EMS to Strathmere...this setup has worked fine and, in fact, it wouldn't surprise me if OC didn't work out some policing agreement with Upper in the future; particularly if NJSP starts to put the clamp on...fiscally, it make sense

Look closely, however, and you will note the dysfunction that presently exits, no good fiscally sound solution except throw $$$ at the problem, incomplete buy in from the agencies/cities and the noted isolation of OC (which also means Upper)
As a County Tax payer who lives in the OC/Upper area, I'm not in favor of spending tons of money to help the lower/center part of the county

After reading that article "Final Report" I find the findings inaccurate. Just skimming through and knowing who they asked for the questionnaire section tells me this report really proves nothing. If the data you receive for the report is incorrect the final outcome is skewed. Not many high ranking officials want to give up the "power" of "their" department with how emergency dispatching is handled. The end result is that CMC has a lot of radio communications problems, dispatch centers are under manned, and technology is lacking. As a radioreference member we all know that being on the same page is not CMC. Upper Fd's have a couple Mototrbo channels, OC Pd is on Atlantic Co. EDACS, Avalon and SH Pd are on Private Mototrbo, Middle Pd is now on 700 ICS system with CMC Sheriffs, and everyone else is VHF. Yet interoperability is suppose to be the end result. As long as each town, city, and township keep doing their own thing the public will never be getting the best service possible.
Although it is quite a long document, it is interesting reading. I had no idea Belleplain had their own dispatch center.

The good thing about the dispatch center to be located at ACY falling through was the proposed location was fairly to both runways. Not a good place to locate a public dispatch center. It was also going to be run by the state. I'm sure that's where the politics came in.
If I remember correctly the new dispatch center will be located somewhere at Stockton. I think a better location would have been at the fire training facility on English Creek Rd.
I thinks it's a bit funny that Atlantic County and Cape May Counties are just looking at centralizing the Public safety dispatch centers, I don't know if they are including the PDs, since Camden County where I live has had centralized dispatch for fire and EMS for over 30+ years. That's politics for you.
