I'm looking to use ProScan to control or RSOIP my SDS-200 over a network. The SDS-200 is ethernet connected to my network. My client laptop is connected back by VPN to my network.
I could either run ProScan as a server on a PC in my network and then access it remotely over my VPN from another ProScan instance running as a RSOIP client. OR, I could just access the scanner directly over the VPN, using ProScan as a direct IP control to the scanner's IP address.

When using a VPN, is there any advantage to using the client/server model with the server locally connected to the scanner? Does ProScan add any buffering or connection-state resilience that might make the connection work better over a VPN vs direct scanner control?

(Interesting side-note: I first tried the direct control and then decided to try the RSOIP method. I couldn't get any audio on the client when setup as a RSOIP client. I tried the free client version on the same laptop that had the full version installed and that had audio. I uninstalled the full ProScan, deleted the directory and re-installed and then the audio as a client worked. I don't know if my first trying direct scanner control left some residual setting that prevented the audio from RSOIP.)

No buffering on the server or client side. That would add latency and a feature of the RSOIP is there is no real latency other than approx.. 100 to 250 ms.

If no audio on the client side, the 1st thing to check are the audio level controls on the Playback side not turned down.. Controls located in the Audio Control - RSOIP tab.
