Proscan - Lost LAN Connection (maybe?)

I’m stumped!

I’ll have using my SDS200 and Proscan (Version 23:3) for a long time (years) without any issues. It’s really a nice feature to be able to use my cellphone to listen to the SDS200 via Proscan. I’m using the LAN connection feature for the communications between the SDS200 and the computer.

However just recently, the LAN connection is loss (I think). When I return to my computer (after extend time away), the Proscan software is still running, but the Proscan scanner window is black and it is not receiving any input from the scanner. As long as I stay active on the computer it seems to continue to work, but when I’m away (at some point) the software stops working /receiving the input from the scanner. To my knowledge nothing has changed on my computer other than MS Window updates. No new hardware or software.

I can get it to work again by doing the following:

1. Go to Remote scanner over IP tab, click the STOP

2. Power cycle the SDS200

3. Open the Comm Port tab, click ULR setup.

4. In the Comm Port tab then click Auto Detect IP Scanners & select my scanner

5. Close open tabs as the connection is reestablished.

Thinks I have done/tried to resolve the problem:

1. Replaced the scanner SD card (brand new) and reprogramed card.

2. Moved the scanner to a different location, to a different LAN switch and new CAT5 cable.

Changed the setting on my Gigabite Ethernet Controller - turned off the power safe mode.

Any suggestions?

just an idea that helped me out with LAN dropping was to change the channel my router was on. every once and a bit neighbors adding wifi devices or RF will muck with us and. it may seem odd but worked for me.

Good luck let us know how you end up solving it.

Hey Kh2- Thanks so much for responding (and the only one!) to my plea for help with Proscan Over IP). I was away for a while and then I wanted to be sure that the "fix" work for an extended period before responding back to you.
The good news is that a simple WiFi channel change fixed the problem. I never would have guessed that a wireless channel would fix the issue. Thanks so much for taking the time to offer your suggestion… It worked! Thanks again.

I’m confused. How could changing the WiFi channel affect a wired LAN connection? Or am I missing something?
I can't explain it, but it solved my issue. Hopefully someone with more technical knowledge can!

I see that the SDS200 LAN is connected to a switch. Is the switch connected to the router or computer?
Could it be that the computer is using a WiFi connection to the router?

If you don't have a WiFi connection in the path then perhaps it's more of a coincidence and I would look at the power saving options.

Engine183 - Thanks - it drove me wild for a loooong time, glad it worked for you.

KevinC - I have little to no experience to talk about why it works in detail but what I have understood - think about driving down the freeway cruising at 60 (your normal wifi performance) and someone cuts you off and you change speeds - I think the router / wifi just burps your connection at that point you got a crowded lane. Again it all an analogy from ignorance on the subject, it worked for me and I find every year or so IE new neighbors or equip. I find a slow down on my wifi and change the channel / move to a clearer lane of traffic. and things clear up.

again Bob and many others are Waaaaay smarter than I on the subject

I understand how changing the channel can help on WiFi, but it was my understanding the OP was using a wired connection to his scanner. But maybe it’s like Bob said and the computer is wireless, but you’d think nothing would work then.

I suspect the issue is the usual LAN lockup that many people have reported.

Yes, my computer and SDS200 are both WIRED connections. Any both on the same router switch. Prior to posting my plea for help, I played with computer power settings and a few other things without any change. The SDS200 has a fixed IP address. The weird thing was that the issue would occur randomly, but it seemed to generally occur after I would stop using my computer. Now after a Wi-Fi channel change the issue is gone. Can't explain it!
