According to the media, today's protests in Berkeley over the Marine Corps recruiting station in the city are expected to be the largest in years. Both pro-Marine and anti-war groups are turning out in advance of tonight's city council meeting.
Protesters are arriving, barricades have been placed, city-hall staff has been advised to leave by 3pm and police/fire/medical are all beefed up.
Heard El Cerrito ask dispatch to call Berkeley to get info on a subject but the response was that everyone was busy with the protests.
Switched to scanning Berkeley and heard a supervisor say that one of the crowds had reached 50+ and the officers were donning helmets.
Just now, the on-scene supervisor advised that that officers were forming a skirmish-line separating the opposing groups but that they were code-4 with units on scene for the time being.
