I have a GRECOM PSR-400 scanner (S/N 1250) that I have not programmed in years. It is working fine. I have a GRE America USB programming cable P/N 30-3290. I have a copy of Win97 v01.37, which says that it is a 30-day trial version. On my Windows 10 laptop, I am having trouble reading the scanner when I connect the two. I did download the drivers from the GRE site (CMD20600) and installed them, but with no good luck. I still get a pop-up box that says Unable to open the port \\.\Com2 2. Com2 does not exist
Any help? I have programmed before, but it has been so many years and probably a few computers ago.
I want to READ to scanner first, before making some changes. And then, upload back to the scanner.

Here's the procedure I'd go through:
- Plug the cable into a USB port on your computer (don't worry about the end to the scanner yet)
- Open Device Manager to see which COM port is assigned to the cable.
- You may need to unplug, re-plug and watch the difference to determine which port.
- If you don't see a COM port assigned, you'll need to install a driver. It needs the driver for WIN10.
- Start WIN97. Select the COM port you just figured out.
- Plug the cable into the PC/IF connection of the scanner. Do not use any pigtails.
- Try "download from scanner". What happens?

Absolutely! When I looked in Device Manager it had assigned Port 9. I changed it to Port 2, plugged it in again, and I am off to the races!

Now that I have all of my conventional frequencies updated, I am going to take a run at some of the P25 stuff in the area. I'm going to look on YouTube and see if anyone has ever put anything there in the way of a tutorial. Again, it has been so many years since I did anything with this scanner. I got spoiled with all of my Uniden scanners and the Sentinal software that does most of the legwork for you. If you have any tips though, fire away...thanks!

Okay, thanks. Between my G4 and my new SDS100, I have that realm covered. I just had not done anything as far as programming with this PSR400 in so long, that I was trying to do anything that I could to get it up-to-date.
