No other software needed, but you need to have communication from your PC to your scanner through the USB scanner cable that came with your scanner. Read the instructions that came with the download and then double click GRE CPU Icon and follow the onscreen instructions.emslt245 said:

I have communication, I just downloaded V-folders to the radio. I click the "open" box on the download window, it downloads, then disappears. No instructions, nothing. When I saved to my desktop, I double-clicked on the file, and nothing happens.thewenk said:

Just figured it out...it's my anti-virus software, similar to the problem Winxx had.
In regards to upgrade of software for GRE500
1-How do i check to see current version on scanner?
2-Could some 1 walk me through on how to upgrade new versions to my scanner?
I have visited GRE web site but find all a little confusing.
If some 1could please help me i really appreciate it.

Turn the scanner on and press 3 immediately to see firmware version. if it doesn.t read: uP Appl Ver: U1.3 , then you need to download the file from GRE website v1.3 and save it and open it and follow the instructions closely.

Ok, for the above versions download and install the PSR-500/600 CPU Firmware version F1.3 first. Then download and install PSR-500/600 DSP version F1.2
Be sure to follow the instructions closely as the steps are a little different from CPU to DSP
installations. After you are done the screen should read:
uP Appl Ver: U1.3
DSP App Ver: U1.2
DSP Voc Ver: F1.0
Just make sure you have the COMM port number your computer is using for the USB programming cable because the instructions require that you select the COMM port number during the installation. Good Luck!!

So if I buy my 500 in a few weeks, can I update from stock to 1.3 or do I need to go 1.1 > 1.2 > 1.3 ?

well as far as the new downloads, it says in the Owner's Manual on page 90 to Hold PGM while powering on radio. Places radio in CPU firmware upgrade mode. do i need to this before the new Downloads. thank you.

When you run the upgrader program from the GRE America web site, it will give you step-by-step instructions

trying to upload DSP ver 1.3 keep getting error...how can i erase CPU ver1.6 so i can upload the DSP first then the CPU
Why do you want to delete the CPU 1.6??.. DSP & CPU are two different things

The radio wont take the DSP 1.3 update, so I want to erase CPU 1.6 update, they try the DSP update...its not like im not going to use the CPU 1.6 update
