I had read in another thread about NAC codes that said that NAC code F7A is sort of a "Universal" code; that a radio programmed with NAC code F7A will unmute regardless of what the actual NAC code being received is. However, I tried this with the GRE PSR-500 and can say that this doesn't work, the PSR-500 simply treats F7A as it would any signal with an improper NAC code. For the record, it was the TSA at the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport; they have a repeater on 172.900 with an NAC code of 001. When the PSR-500 was programmed with a NAC code of 001, the radio received it fine; when the code was changed to F7A, the audio remained muted.

So, does the universal F7E code only work when used with commercial radios, (i.e., Motorola) or is this supposed to work with these new GRE scanners as well?

No the code doesn't work, and what would it accomplish? I'm not sure I understand what you want it to do - if you put it in NAC SEARCH mode it will only unmute on digital transmissions. No code required...

Nothing except to see if the F7E code "trick" works, which I have now seen doesn't. But yes, NAC search would accomplish the same thing.

Was there another NAC code issue also. Something like certain NAC codes with a "3" in them weren't dedoding?

Hopefully that's an issue that can be fixed with a firmware upgrade.
