psr-500 download problems

hello im trying to get the original firmware downloaded. i have deleted all of the preprogrammed vscanner data. know i would like to put it back in. i have down loaded the original firmware. now the trouble starts i see two diffrent ports labled numbers 1 and 2. first off which one do i use. i have tried both . i plugged the cable into the scanner and pluged the other end to pc in front where usb is. im trying to download test runs. to get fimilar with downloads. every time it comes up no responce or incomplete responce from scanner. plus some more bs. am i spose to be connected to the internet when doing this. because im not. im really getting upset with this. can some one please help mw with this. step by step so i can understand what i am doing. i am not getting any where with this thanks in advance for youre help frank ps i am using windows me thanks again

Did you turn the scanner "OFF" then press & hold the "PGM" key then turn the scanner back "ON" ??

One of the things you should double check is what port the cable is assigned by your computer. If you are using Windoze, open the device manager and go down to the comm ports (near the bottom of the list) and expand it. Find the "USB serial port" and then see what port it is running on. It may not be 1 or 2 (mine is comm 3).

Then in your software, set the comm port to that value.

One thing to be careful of with Windoze and USB cables. If you change the physical port on your computer the cable is connected to, it will in all likely hood change the comm port number you are using. So try to use the same physical connection each time.

After that, just follow the instructions provided, TO THE LETTER.
