Hi, our province is switching to a new radio system which will include encrypted police frequencies. The transition is imminent so I have been using Wildcard to listen to the new system's as yet unknown Talkgroups. I'm hearing garbled transmissions in the police Talkgroups' range, but I thought the scanner was supposed to automatically mute encrypted channels. I haven't been able to find a setting for this in the manual or the easier to read 500 manual. I don't have the latest firmware, but I'm taking an "if it isn't broken" approach to updating. Do the latest firmwares auto mute P25 enc by chance, or am I missing a setting? Or (very likely) did I come up with a non existing setting in my mind? Thanks for any help.

Short answer, no, sorry, but you are going to keep hearing noise until you L/O the groups that aren't in the clear. The PSR-800 and its clones can mute ENC, not the 500/600 family.:( Great radios otherwise, though.

Yeah it has been great other than the fragile antenna connector which I've had to have re soldered about 3 times since I got it in 2009. Super sensitive though for sure so I wouldn't really change anything. I have a 1300 serial but my LED still works too, was lurking in that thread when your reply came in. Thanks for that, I will continue to L/OUT em but now I can stop looking for that setting. Thanks!

Lucky you, my red LED is very finicky. I'm plagued with the LED issues it would seem. Great scanner otherwise, I've not had any antenna connection issues though so that's good

Ah. I left mine in my back pocket while grabbing a pick up pizza a few years ago and sat on it slightly before my blood froze and I caught myself. Heck it may have been fine and never broken if I hadn't done that boneheaded move, but it's been fine for a long time between repairs. I bought a micro soldering iron last time because it's a small area to work in and my dad was able to do a finer job so it's been fine ever sence. I don't use the LED cause I assumed it was hard on batteries (I bring my scanner to work to listen to), but I just ran through the default colours and everything looked normal. Other than that dreaded sit and I think two falls (one on laminate floor from two feet and one on carpet from the same) its had an easy life and has survived my stupid moves so far. I don't mind the air band coverage either but I've heard there are better options out there.

Ouch. I have the RS version (651) and also a 197 for a base scanner. I always have to keep reminding myself when carrying the 651 or any other scanner that it is not the commercial gear I'm used to with the FD. Dropping/bumping/cramping the antenna/getting them dusty/dirty/wet are all no-nos and one day I'll forget and it'll catch up with me...I guess G&G will get some of my $$$ when it happens, once upon a time I might have attempted to fix a problem, but it seems as if my hands got bigger as the components got smaller. I don't use the LED on the hand-held, just on the 197 at home...I use the 651 mostly as an ad-hoc mobile unit and even set on dim that LED is quite bright and very distracting when driving after dark. But they have great audio and outstanding p.1 decode so until they die & can't be resurrected or my system goes p.2 they'll have a home here.:D
