OK....fixed is a bit of a stretch, perhaps solved (or a workaround) would be a better descriptor.

I purchased a small inexpensive mini audio amplifier from radio shack...plugged it in, turned on the scanner and just about shattered the windows....yeah...it's loud.

There are a couple drawbacks.

1. The unit requires a 9v battery to operate, which is housed in a screwed cover on the rear side. (But it will accept a 9v plug on the side)

2. There are no real mounting solutions. (velcro perhaps?) I want to use this unit in my SUV.

Item # is 277-1008

I tried using a 9V cigarette lighter adapter with the unit you are talking about, but I got a ton of ignition noise, so I'm stuck using the battery. It works very well, and lasts about 2 weeks (even with forgetting to turn if off half the time).

Do you guys use this RS Amp/speaker for use in a vehicle?

I'm trying to find something loud enough for inside my truck.

I tired a couple of baluns, but they didn't help. Yes, this is the small white amplified speaker, that they are selling for $15. Sounds great, wish they'd make one just like it with better noise reduction and a way to mount it (bracket, etc).

I discovered a hum using both 9v battery and ac/dc converter. In my Jeep, however, you cant hear the hum once you start moving.

Yep, it'll be plenty loud for your truck

I received the mini RS speaker last week. Yep, it's loud enough!!! My only concern now is the battery life. I'll report back

I use that speaker in my work truck and have it mounted with a small vent mount for a cell phone, side clamp style, and a tie wrap to prevent it from falling out . The only time I get a lot of noise is with it is when my PSR-800 is plugged in to run on usb power and the speaker is powered by a lighter cord. If I keep the scanner on battery power , I can run the speaker on car power and only have minimal hiss at very high volume levels( to the point of distortion that makes it hard to understand).
