Hello can someone please help me with their current PSR 800 low battery tone alert values ? I’ve had my PSR 800 at least five or six years and have not gotten the correct battery alert tone values set for rechargeable batteries to wear the batteries are depleted and I hear the tone and then the scanner shuts off is there someone anyone out there who has Had success with a battery tone alert values starting at bars 14 all the way down to the alert tone and their scanner and that they don’t mind sharing, thank you

Here's what I use on my PSR-800 converted to a WS1080--not certain if they're the default values or not--but they work fine for me.

I should mention that these settings are for my Panasonic Eneloop Pro Ni-MH 2450mAh rechargable batteries... since that makes a difference.

I tried the values listed above and I do not get an alert tone. Scanner just goes dead. I’m using the energizer rechargeable batteries, 2300 mA. What the heck am I doing wrong?

Hi--sorry you're having troubles... the values that are input for the battery level and alert really shouldn't have any effect on when the scanner automatically switches off. It should just control when you see and hear a warning for low batteries.

Have you tried running the scanner on external power? Any older-style USB mini-B should power up the scanner when plugged into a computer USB port.

No, I haven’t tried that yet mainly because I just want to use my rechargeable batteries on the scanner and bring it along with me and also I’m just looking for the alert beep when I changed the values to the values up above I don’t even hear the alert beep anymore I’m figuring I have to change the values again so at least I hear the beep scanner just shuts off it’s becoming so frustrating that there doesn’t seem to be a standard regular answer for 2300 Millie and batteries and these Whistler Scanner Help’s before you hear a alert, tone beep it’s crazy Thanks for your help though and information

OK--now I understand... I thought the scanner was turning off immediately, and not running at all. What you're saying is that you're not getting any warning before the scanner shuts down--the scanner still runs normally until it cuts off without warning--sorry, I'm a bit dim sometimes.

The difference between 2300mA (yours) and 2450mA (mine) shouldn't be all that bad--you should be getting a warning beep. I seem to recall that my PSR-800 would shut down around 4.10v. I've since had my PSR-800 converted to a WS1080 by Whistler for the DMR coverage. It's still the GRE hardware, but the firmware was updated, but the values shouldn't have changed all that much.

Let's try it a different way... start at the bottom of the rechargeable battery values and input 4.20 for Alert, 4.25 for 0, 4.30 for 2, etc... you get the idea.

Then, change the alert interval from the default of 30 secs to 10 sec or 15 secs.

See if that works for you.

OK, thank you very much. I will give that a try. It will take me a few days to do it but I definitely will report back. I am visually impaired and it takes a little doing for me too. Do this stuff nowadays appreciate your help.

OK I gave you a suggestion they try, and now the scanner does have an alert tone I think I said it to 10 seconds, but the scanner still stays on for about 10 or 15 minutes after the initial beeps start now I guess I can work with that but do you think I should lower the alert tone value from 20 to a lower number?

Yup, you're on the right track... if the ALERT value of 4.15 is too short a warning time before the scanner dies, and 4.20 is a bit too long, try something in between, like 4.18 or 4.17.
