PSRN Phase 2 Help

Hello. I will be heading down to Toronto next week for a couple days and I will be bringing my BCD996P2 and I am just wondering if anyone on here can tell me what the: Base Frequency, Space Frequency & OFFSET Channel is for this new P25 Phase 2 FleetNet system is. I am aware it will all be Encrypted but just want to enter it into my scanner and see what I can hear if anything while I am there in the hotel.

You won't need those things for this system, compared to the original FleetNet. Just build a P25 System and enter the control channels for the area. Once it locks onto a control channel, it will populate the information into the scanner itself.

You probably won't get too much though - been purely encrypted traffic on the radio testing channels overall around here. The Toronto and King City sites have been down for a few weeks and the Queen's Park one had 0 activity at all when I watched it a bit a few days ago. You might get Mississauga and Fonthill depending on where you are.

It's been much more interesting to monitor the data on a computer than wait for anything to pass through a scanner.

Ok I wasn’t sure if you needed the Base frequency and all that just like for this current system.

Yah, I believe it probably would be a little more interesting to watch it on a computer. So since you brought up the computer, I use TRUNK88 and if I did decide to bring it, on TRUNK88 since I have it set up for this Fleetnet obviously with the base frequencies and all that.
Would I have to clear out all that and just enter in the Control channel(s) into my tapped scanner I use and that’s it, or will it still pick up the info on the new P25 system even if the Base frequencies and all that are still entered into the TRUNK88 file I am using.

Trunk88 is great for the original FleetNet, so leave it set up for that, don't change a thing as you can still study the current system.

For PSRN, download Pro96Com - Control channel decoder for P25 Trunked Radio Systems

Just add the control channels you want to monitor and launch Pro96, it will populate the page.
It should work well with your BCD 996P2. I use that program with my BCD 325P2.

Ok thanks, so it won’t work with TRUNK88, since that is the only program I am familiar with and have only used. Was thinking if I did bring my computer I would use TRUNK88.

So I would have to use the program you just mentioned

Keep in mind that there are no users on PSRN yet. The only thing you might hear are Bell Mobility techs testing but 99% of their transmissions are encrypted.

Yep. In the last 4 days logged tons of radios affiliating and call testing, and I think maybe 7 non-encrypted transmissions that were just radio checks, of which the responses were done on encrypted radios.

Trunk88 isn't compatible with todays P25 trunking systems. It's been superseded by programs like Unitrunker, DSDPlus, Pro96Com and SDRTrunk. And as mentioned already, there is very little activity on the system at this point.

Mike: if you are using your 325 to use that program aren't you constantly changing your batteries? I get 4-6 hrs of battery life on mine.

How much better is it than Unitrunker? I'm not a fan of Unitrunker, is it worth using when my baselines quality is T88?

I run DSD+ and Unitrunker together all the time. I only use T88 for FleetNet that's it, just because it shows the status messages and VR status.
I've had UT going on my local EDACS system for the last 12 years or so, and they just changed over to P25. Now it's running on that and I just like it better for that stuff. Easy to see what radios have been on what talkgroups and just quicker to see whats going on

I also have a 325P2 and notice the battery life is very short. Can't make a round trip to the GTA and home on a full charge with some good batteries.

USB power! Doesn't take much either - I used to run mine fine off the extremely low output from the USB that goes to my vehicles stereo.

The 325 is my "put in the drawer and only take out when I go mobile" scanner. Batteries seem to last a while when you only turn it on once or twice a month. I used Pro96com before I did the DSD+ Fast Lane upgrade. DSD+ FL tells me everything I need to know.

UT, UT2.1, Pro96Com all have their uses, I use them just to satisfy my curiosity. Even SDRTrunk works on the Peel Region P25 system much better than my scanners. SDR Sharp 1741 allows me to monitor TTC with the TETRA pug in.

The 996P2 will work well with Pro96com if they are interested in checking out PSRN.
