This morning at 9:27 a.m. Colorado State Troopers were conducting an aircraft team operation in the north Pueblo area when the pilot of the CSP aircraft observed a 2008 Honda motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed. The Honda was traveling northbound I-25 near mile marker 114 when it failed to yield to troopers on the ground. The Honda crossed over into the southbound lanes of I-25 and continued southbound. The Honda exited I-25 at mile marker 108, North Purcell Boulevard, and traveled west into Pueblo West. The Honda eventually traveled southwest onto East McCulloch Boulevard. The Honda attempted to pass a 1990 International Dump Truck as the truck was conducting a left turn into Pueblo West Metropolitan District when the Honda struck the left side of the truck. The unidentified driver of the Honda, a 31 year-old male of Pueblo West died as a result of his injuries.
The driver of the International Dump Truck, a 55 year old male of Pueblo was uninjured in the crash.
The Honda Motorcycle was reported stolen to Colorado Spring Police on July 15th.
This incident is still being investigated and has been turned over to the Pueblo County Critical Incident Team for further review.
