Hopefully it was for more than just resisting arrest. A pursuit that long isn't really justified with those charges.
Would racking up additional charges along the way be reason enough to continue?
I don't think I've
ever heard CHP terminate a pursuit to let the bad guy get away, where local PD command is quick to have them terminate.
I remember one CHP pursuit that started on the highway system and went onto the downtown streets of San Diego. SDPD joined but the SDPD Lieutenant ordered the pursuit to terminate due to the wrecklessness. After local PD dropped out, the Lt was heard again telling his dispatcher repeatedly to advise CHP to drop out, but CHP had no intention on doing that. This created a rather interesting exchange of head-butting between the two agencies as relayed by the dispatchers. IIRC CHP eventually got their man.
Ah and then I remember when I lived in Reno, Reno PD would initiate pursuits all the time when ppl ran, and the sergeant would almost immediately and instantaneously terminate it. Everyone got away in Reno when I was there...
