BCD396XT/BCD996XT: Puzzle with BCD996XT

A prolonged blackout or some other incident disrupted the programming on my XT. With ARC XT I uploaded the sites and groups again but not a group ID'd as "Public Safety." The XT scans all the sites uploaded and then hits this Public Safety group where it proceeds to scan the whole range from 31MHz to 800MHz. How do I get rid of this full scan group?

Try this:

press the Manual button, turn the scroll knob until "Public Safety" appears on the screen, and press the L/O (Lockout) button twice quickly while holding the function key if needed

you can only turn them on or off.
i guess you meant DELETE the whole group. no you can't.
is it scanning all of them or just the public safety one ?
the fast way to lock it out is
when it is on the group, hit the function button and then lockout twice quickly.

Scans from 31MHz to 800MHz. Occasionally it hits on an active frequency but mostly not. I do not want to scan the Public Safety group, don't know where it came from. It was not being scanned until whatever happened, happened.

Did you mean Menu? There is no Manual that I can see. I have had this scanner for years and had not trouble using software to program what I want to scan. Now I am having trouble understanding what I need to do here. Thanks.

the longer way.
menu, turn the knob to highlight search for, hit yes
search for, turn knob to highlight edit service, hit yes
public service, hit yes
turn to highlight search with scan, hit yes
search with scan, turn knob to highlight set lockout, hit yes
set lockout, turn knob to highlight lockout, hit yes,
hit scan

and this is the way to have a service search run when you are scanning.
like highway patrol and CB radio when on the highway

All of them.

i typed the longer way as you were typing
and the twice thing is because the radio goes through
UNLOCK
TEMPORARY L/O
LOCKOUT
>twice takes it from unlock, down 2, to lockout.
a temporary lockout means it will come back with a power cycle (off and on)

I don't use ARC programs however perhaps you have assigned a quick key to that Service Search in your file.
There is not a keypad way that I have found to assign a Quick Key to Service Searches or Custom Searches, however, ProScan does allow you to assign them. The biggest benefit is to be able to use the Scan/Search key to force it to continue

Quick Keys' are used to turn conventional systems, trunking sites (not systems), channel groups, and custom/service searches on and off while scanning
from marks easy to read one.

In scanner MENU, go to Search for. Scroll to Edit Service or Edit Custom. Scroll to the Service Search or Custom Search you want to assign to a quick key. Scroll to Search with Scan. Set Quick Key. Scroll to Set Lockout. Make sure it is unlocked. Exit MENU.
