Hello all, I'm new to ham radio and blindly bought a kenwood tm-d710ga on a whim and trying to learn how to use it.

Basic question on the mic keypad ... is there any way to use the keypad to directly enter a VFO frequency or directly enter a memory channel?

At least on my unit, I can't figure out how to do this. Did a full factory reset and can't find any menu items that would lock the keypad.

Thank you

Any of the four programmed function keys on the microphone can be reprogrammed:

Here is the explanation of how the keys can be set:

Here is the explanation of how direct frequency entry works. Note, this also works for direct memory channel access when in Memory mode:

Brilliant ... thanks!
It's a wonder why memory/VFO direct entry is not a default setting for the mic. I was able to reprogram the call button to [enter].

Thanks much

I usually PF4 (CALL) to ENTER and PF1 (PF) to REV so I can quickly check the input while listening to a repeater frequency.

Why it doesn't come from the factory like that? Who knows. I'm just glad they let us change it.
