• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Everyone I know who owns a Q5N2 and had them for awhile has the same issue with the microphone. They change frequency on their own. Fortunately there is a quick and easy fix. These are great sounding microphones to be sure. I had one of mine suffer a dead element and not being able to find a replacement OEM element I purchased some larger and more sensitive elements from Amazon.

Put 3 of them in the stock mic. And while I don’t think it would do well in the mobile, it is now my favorite mic when running my Q5 on my base. How sensitive is it? Well I can use it normally or sit back 15 foot away and converse using VOX with locals. Not pretty but highly functional

This mic sounds as good if not a little better than stock. $20.

What I use in big truck.

Hung from GEARKEEPER and an M31 ferrite below it’s easier to grasp due to size, shape, & weight.

No more inadvertent changes.

The new element mod looks like fun.

I’d like to try one of these with it. NC Electret element and internal adjustments to customize to radio.

Just do it. You can get EZ type RJ-45 connectors that should fit that cable so no adapter needed.

Would this type of mic work with the QT80? I really don't I'll be using the buttons on top of the original. No buttons would just help not change channels at an inopportune time. I think that happened to me with my QT40 last week. I got a truck driver to answer a call and I quickly lost him. I think I inadvertently pressed a up or down channel button.

If your QT40 is charging channels on its own, it is the same mic as the Q5N2. When my 2 mics started doing that I opened them up, cleaned everything with 99% alcohol and sprayed the PTT switch with corrosion X. What I had on hand at the time. That was over 1 year ago with no problems since. Another option which I also did just to have spares, alliexpress. I bought 2 replacement mics and haven’t needed them yet. $11 a piece if I recall

As far as the QT80 mic, that’s a different story and microphone. I have no idea if they will be prone to that issue. I like the feel of the QT80/Q6pro mic better than the others. Wider mic fits my hand better:

Thanks, I think I accidentally pushed the button. I'll have to check them out closer, but I think the qt40 is a little smaller and easier to push a top button while holding the mic. I sent a message to Radioddity's customer support to see what they have to say about it.

Yes when it first started happening to me I thought maybe my big clumsy hands were the culprit. The Q6 pro mic is bigger. But the QT40:60 are the same small mic. 60 has rj45 40 has 4 pin. The chords are interchangeable.
