To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Quantar repeater with SCOM 7K controller Multi-mode W\TOT issues between modes

Hi all, I've have 2 Quantars working on VHF and UHF and they are interfaced with SCOM 7k controllers. They used to be used on MSF5K's but we wanted to try out P25 so I've upgraded. So I've interfaced partially through the MRTI interface using PTT, COR, RX, TX audio and ground just like we did on the MSF because I was familiar with that and I'm getting some signals off of the 50 pin connector I think the PL signal from it and a few INPUTS for disabling PL and the Repeater into the 7K. I am not using any of the Wireline connections (Maybe that's my problem...don't know)

Running in dual mode with M>R>W>L>D for reference. P25 works with in cabinet repeater and TOT. 7K getting COR/PL from the repeater and running Analog perfectly. 7K also is running a DADB (Digital Audio Delay Board). So the strange thing that is happening is when the in cabinet repeater times out the 7K still allows the repeater to transmit and it's like the Audio from the repeater and the controller are causing this strange echo effect during TX on Analog. My guess it's due to the TOT not set on the 7K and a combination of the delay board audio allowing to be sent. I thought the repeater would stop transmitting but the controller must be taking over at that point but the delay thing is weird

So I set a TOT on the 7K to the same value as the Quantar figured that should solve my problem. I'm having different issues after doing this as well. I know there are ways to setup the Wildcard to do certain things but it's above my head and confusing. I've searched the internet and W9CR's page and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for not to mention not sure what I should be looking for. So I was wondering if anyone has tried using an external controller in Multi mode fashion and what your luck has been and if your willing to share your codeplugs with me specifianlly with Wildcard settings that may help me with this conflict between the external controller and the in cabinet repeat? I figure once I see it I'll know what I need if I had something to look at. There was a sample code plut on W9CR's page and with all the timers that were being used I just got confused. Any help would be appreciated. I'm just knew to the Quantar and still want control from the external controller which also has the autopatch enabled and I want the TOT'r to work correctly.

Appreciate your help.

Why would you disrupt the internal repeat audio with a controller? I can see using the controller for remote control stuff but running Quantar audio through it will only result in worse audio than how Motorola designed it. Also, to my knowledge the P25 audio in a Quantar is never demodulated, so without some optional Quantar card there would be no P25 audio to send through an external controller. Then there is the internal audio delay built into the Quantar. Its minimal but there and partially responsible for the "Quantar roar" where they can decode their own PL and keep transmitting when duplexer isolation is not adequate.

I'm not running P25 through the controller just the Analog when used and I don't have an issue with the audio quality at all through the controller. I've actually changed a capacitor to modify it so it matched the MSF5K and it's pretty much seamless. I appreciate the comment but you didn't add or help at all with my question. The bottom line is others do it and I am doing it. So I'm hoping to find a solution not a dig. Regards....

If you have an analog repeat audio path through the external controller, you should not have the Quantar capable of analog repeat.

On the channel information screen, the analog repeater activation and hold in should be set to 'OFF'

If I turn off repeater activation will the RX still see the PL to activate the PL/Detect so I can use that in the controller?

It should. This guy makes various cables for the Quantar and S-Com controllers and has detailed wildcard programming info for them. I use his simple external repeater control module and there are 21 pages of wildcard programming for that. Motorola QUANTAR Interface Cables and PCB's

I've looked at that site as well and have reviewed some of the wildcard settings. But I believe they use the wireline where I'm using the MRTI. I'll have to look into it more.

XMO ..., thank you for the suggestion on disabling the Analog repeater activation. That solved my problem 100%. I didn't even think about this and now that it's off the controller is working great and the Time-Out-Timers work independently of each other. P25 and the Analog/controller work as they should with no echoing. I knew what was happening but didn't know why. It's always the easy things.

Thanks again i really appreciate the help. Such a relief to be past this issue. I'm sure there will be more to come as I learn these machines. 73,
