Very good propogation this morning; I was able to decode RSP
Site 15 (St-Eustache) EDACS from CC 866.3125, from Ottawa.

A first for me is receiving any trunking in the 900MHz band. This
is the CTM 16 EDACS system with CC on 937.375. All TGs seen
were digital. For some reason Etrunk did not decode the system
number, nor the LCN of the CC (1), but the other 5 LCNs were
logged.

UHF Motorola systems 5127 and 5636 made their regular
appearance. 5127's control channel had switched to 452.675
which was the old Enbridge EDACS Renfrew SCAT channel, no
longer in use.

Several times I've heard digital sound on 164.925, which appears
to come from a Radio Onde Montreal site. TAFL indicates bandwidth
of 4kHz; does anyone know the specific type of system (the sound is
similar to the MRC de Papineau system, a sort of muffled clattering
noise).

Lastly, I heard a carrier with digital "chuffing" noise on 166.050 and
166.320MHz. This sounds like Mobitex on the 938-940MHz band
but has also been heard on VHF/UHF for taxi dispatching in Kingston
(164.370) and Barrie Ontario (464.0625). TAFL shows entry for
166.050 as CAA in Montreal, would that be what the 166MHz
channels are?

as per INFOSCAN's (Qc site in French)

166.320 is Wakefield F.D. in western QC

http://db.infoscan.org/recherche_rep.asp

There are multiple assignments to this frequency. I am within
ground wave coverage of Wakefield (Lapeche) and that's not it.
The continuous carrier with short data bursts is typical of a
commercial dispatch system such as taxis. Anyway, the
signal is gone now...

Hi DaveH

That's propagation on 800 and 900 MHz !

I think the 160MHz burst you get are the frequencies used by Montreal's CAA MDT ... I think when they began MDT it was a product called Dynet but they changed a few years ago and not sure was they are using now but it is in VHF ...

Thanks, slypx, if anyone is likely to provide a good response, it is you!

The MDT makes sense, but CAA is not licensed to 166.320, similar sound but it may
be the same type of system but a different user?

BTW, I believe 166.320 may no longer be used by Wakefield/Lapeche (sorry about no accents)
fire. It is a very old assignment, and they have been heard on 163.470 repeater. Long ago
I also heard them on 171.060, a shared commercial repeater (!), and also 169.110 simplex
which they are licensed to. They have another repeater on 166.335/164.685, but I have
not checked it partly due to both input and output which fall 15kHz from local strong
taxi-dispatch MDTs (166.350 and 164.670 in Ottawa). There is too much happening to
follow everything through...

Thank you Dave

I did a little diging and ... and ...well they have a license ! (Under "Club Automobile C.") The official name being too long for I-C ... (Club Automobile CAA Quebec). That name was adopted after the merging of the 2 CAA club in Quebec in 1985 - "The Automobile and Touring club of Montreal" and "Club Automobile de Quebec".

166.3200/170.5500 - MONTREAL, QC (3635 RIDGEWOOD) - CLUB AUTOMOBILE C. - 45.4933, - 73.6133 - CIZ619 - 2005-10-05

As a matter of fact, they have a lot of licenses take a look at the attached file.

The Ridgewood st sites are the transmitters and the 1180 Drummond st site is the CAA downtown office current address. I used to work for the Emergency road services on XOP743 (454.050) in the 80's ! It is still used for temporary support for additional towing in winter time.

Regular operations can be heard on the system CTM13 http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=1745

By the way I used this site http://www.jrmy.net/tafl/ that is a lot more user friendly then the I-C site ...

Good enhanced propogation on all bands, VHF/UHF and 800/900MHz
this morning, although it has faded quite a bit now. Lots of things were
heard coming from the Montreal area, in Ottawa.

I notice one voice channel from CTM 13 has been moved to CTM 14...

I changed it last week after monitoring (Unitrunker) the system CTM13 for 3 days and having tons of communications on every voice channel and none on this freq. Sometimes CTM is playing around with some of their frequencies to support occasionnal needs, especialy during the big rental season. Wonder what I-C would say about that ;)

Good to hear that you are keeping an ear on these things :)

I also notice that UHF Moto system 5636 (Access 01) has been down to three channels
(CC + 2VC) in the last month or so...wondering where those channels may have gone
(462.225 and 462.450)?
