Question about a SO239 connector

Nope! The SO239 is the female Socket for the male Plug PL259. If you are familiar with CB radio, look on the back where the antenna attaches and you will find one style of SO239 connector.

Another way to think of it is, the plug (PL259) is the connector on the wire and the socket (SO239) is the connector on the device.

OK, I have always wondered this....why are the numbers 239 and 259? Wouldn't it make more sense for them to be say PL-259 and SO-259? PL being for the plug, SO being for the socket, and having the same number since they are made to connect together?

I suppose there is some reason for it, but its just one of those stupid things that has always bugged me.
