Anyone monitoring NUTLEY PD hear a load repeater noise on PD, FD transmissions? It seems to have been worse the last 4 months or so. If so what is that annoying sound? Thanks.

I thought it was just me and actually thought the noise got better or went away. I guess I have to listen more closely. When it was at it's worst, it sounded like heterodyning on their repeater. I have only heard that noise on the ham radio side when the repeater's duplexer starts to fail. But then it shifted to other sort of intermodulation distortion. Nutley is only one town away from me, but it always seems to be a struggle to hear sometimes.

What you are hearing is likely Rockaway Township Police's illegal DMR transmitter. It can be heard full quieting from one end of the state to the other, and well beyond. Their licensed ERP is 62 watts, however the reality is it is probably more like 200-300 watts. It's been rumored that they have gone simulcast recently (in further violation of their license), which is probably why you've noticed it to be worse.

Hello everyone, I am in town visiting my daughter and noticed very little activity on Nutley's PD Ch1 Dispatch (154.785). Radio Reference DB indicates they are on VHF, did not see any notes that they moved primary to NJICS. I've searched the forums but there are no mentions. Anyone actively monitoring this department that can shed some light? I have an SDS100.

Wish I could listen to Nutley PD on broadcastify but it's not available. You can listen to Belleville PD, but it's hard to understand.

I live in Belleville, but work in Nutley. I am hearing PD fine on 154.785 right now. They seem have improved in signal in the past year since last years issue.

Ok so I take they communicate little over radio I've had them on all day for the last 3 days and heard only a few transmissions. No more than 10 a day. Was wondering if this VHF frequency was a backup channel and they had moved their dispatch to NJICS.

It's been active at night a lot lately. I usually don't monitor analog while I'm working in town during the day. I have the benefit of height, so I usually monitor NJCIS, Bergen TRS, and West Orange. I'm not a fan of the SDS100 Analog reception on VHF/UHF, so I stick to digital. I have taken the Home Patrol 1 into the office on occasion. Night and day difference on analog between the two, especially 14 floors off the ground. We have Nutley and Clifton both providing coverage for our campus. Trying to help our management find value in simple monitoring for situational awareness.

Thank you N2NHL, I will keep on monitoring and listen to other departments in NJCIS. I agree on the SDS100 analog reception for VHF/UHF however im stuck with it since I couldn't bring my other scanners.
