I am attempting or would like to set my scanner up to press one button to monitor either one list or the other. My situation is as follows I have a larger county wide list and a more local to my community list. I'd like to with one press of the key turn the list on or off. I have read the manual unfortunately I have having a hard time figuring out how to do this. I have ready the manual, but truthfully I am having a hard time understanding how to accomplish this. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

At least two buttons are required, a digit and then E.
If you have different favorite lists then add a QK to each of them by going into the scanners menu and select "Manage Favorites" and select a FL and set the QK to what number you would like to use. Read back to Sentinel when you're done so it will not be overwritten the next time you program the scanner from Sentinel, or any other software.

Another consideration is the type of system - trunked or conventional. Conventional is ok to set up two Favorites Lists, one with the larger area, the second with the smaller area.

With a trunked system, duplicating "things" can lead to inefficient scanning and missed traffic.

I also am experiencing problems getting the Favorites List to change with this 2 key attempt. What are all required to accomplish this task? Do the lists need to be turned on to Monitor?

I find it easier and less complicated just to go into the menu and turn on or off the Favorites I want to monitor. While Quick Keys can be fun (if not challenging), after all is said & done, perhaps more trouble than they're worth. As usual, FWIW and YMMV.

I do the same as I then also see the names of the lists I turn off or on and doesn't need to remember what QK that goes to what.

Now the truth is that if "Quick Keys" suddenly disappeared in future firmware or future models, we would likely all be up in arms. We don't like to lose ANY features, even those that we do not use at the moment. And I imagine that there are many folks that do use (and have mastered) their technique with Quick Keys, For an old timer like me, it's easier to go through a list then to commit extraneous stuff to memory.

I haven't looked into it but I image that ProScan and Butel have some sort of aid to use QK's more efficient. Even the scanner itself could use QK macro setups that can be set with a text tag and be on the display as much that can be fit and be displayed with a dubble push of the Fn button.

You could have Mem 1 as "Standard" that will disable and enable several QK that you set. Mem 2 could be "Air" that disables all and only enable the QK's that are related to air frequencies. I know that it to some degree can be done by service types, but those are set per individual objects and not departments or systems and sometimes several different service types are applicable to one object and you will also need to set each and every object correctly. You also need the Mem macros to setup certain scenarios, like "Home" or "Mobile" or perhaps "Police Incident", or "Local" and "Distant". AOR scanners use some similar method to "link" several scanlists together.

Putting it in a nutshell, have both FLs set to monitor and download, assign a Favorites List Quick Key to each (say 1 and 2) then when the scanner is running press 1 (ENTER) or 2 (ENTER) to enable or disable them.

If you want to easily remember which is which, prepend them with the FLQK:
01 Countywide
02 Local

I believe in the Quick Key number being a part of the tag. Since I use all three Quick Key types (Favorites, System and Department) I will use "F", "S", or "D" too.
