I'm everywhere Focker!
Thank you very much for the friendly response. I forgot to say that I am not good with technology. I have a condition that effects my memory and that is why I post or repost a lot. It would be nice if others would realize this. I have stated before that I am trying to enjoy this hobby as long as possible.

People do realize it, but when you have multiple threads about the exact same issue it makes it difficult for otters to assist you. Understanding is a two-way street.

I thought you sold your Pro-106 back in July of 2009 for the same problems you are posting about lately?

I was really hoping to get more help without involving the 2 year olds. I am really saddened by the negative responses. It would great to just love one another and help each other without whining.

God bless and have a safe day
In one of your 14 threads in the RS forum asking for help to program your 106, one ended up having 97 replies, you had a tremendous amount of response and patience from dozens of notable members in the spirit of RR. You got links, videos and step by step instructions repetitively from some pretty good folks, two months into that thread, you posted this...

I have to admit a response that you got from a certain member was brutal. It was true but brutal. Very harsh.

Do you remember how supportive I was regarding your temporal lobe dementia?, I explained that even though I'm a retired newspaper editor I'm also a registered nurse with my degree in public health. I was very supportive as I felt bad.

I reached out to a notable expert on GRE radios who is a friend and he came on and tried to help you step by step but your replies were not appropriate or timely and then he saw that you were cross-posting the same topic on the Louisiana thread he stated he was done, that was enough. He's a very friendly person but he just moved on. I thanked him publicly and apologized privately.

I think you now interpret him as being unfriendly just like the harsh poster and now I am also apparently unfriendly and negative. Other than that one harsh post I don't think anyone has been unfriendly or negative towards you but that's just my opinion. I am frustrated for you as I do know the progressiveness of your fairly rare ailment.

Back to your problem. This was recommended by me in the past and a number of others. It's something I would never recommend in a million years but in your case I believe it is the answer... even though you said you can't afford it, maybe the stimulus money could help, but get your radio programmed by Scanner Master the way you want it done so that you can enjoy the hobby while you still can. I don't care how you do it, borrow the money if you have to. You should be able to enjoy your scanner the way you want it. The best of luck to you... Bob.

Bob, you are right in a lot of ways. I am sorry if I was wrong or came across to strong. Yes, there were a lot people that helped a lot including you. I am asking for forgiveness from everyone. Like I said in the past the FTD effects me in different ways. Can we put this behind us and start a clean slate. There are a few other reasons but I would have to write a small book. LOL

I use rechargable batteries in my 106 in the black battery case. Yes I am very careful. Is it ok to use the a/c power adapter at night with or without the batteries.

A shorted NiMH battery caused my Pro 96 case to melt when on the charger. I would not leave the adapter plugged in and I charge my batteries in an external charger. The batteries charge more evenly in the external charger and should last longer.

You can use rechargeable batteries in the black holder, they will not charge in it. You should not use non-rechargeable batteries in the yellow holder. If you use the yellow holder with them and try to use external power charging voltage is applied to them which could cause a major problem.

Use an external charger for your batteries and use the black holder for normal batts and use the yellow one for rechargs. These aren't like the older scanners that charge while plugged up.

I melted my Pro-97 battery case years ago, I now use it for conventional monitoring with 2700 mAh with an external charger and get about 6 hours of airtime, more when they are new batteries.

Do I have to press select to remove the * then go to the correct SL then press * again each time I program a new talk group.

If you are programming a lot of TGs, simply change the default scanlist to the list you want to use.
On a Whistler WS1040 that setting is the 17th setting in the PGM GLOB menu.

Thank you for the quick replies. I was aware of the answers, so I will take the black battery case out when using a/c or d/c power. And yes I do use an external charger.

Mine does as long as I’m using the yellow battery holder. You need to go in to the setting and select the type of batteries you are using so they charge properly.

You can leave the black battery holder in the radio all the time including when the external power wire is plugged into the radio.
The black holder does not allow the cells in the black holder to charge at all. If you would need to use alkaline cells that are not rechargeable, you should always use the black holder just in case you accidentally plug in the external charger wire.

Use the yellow holder only with rechargeable cells if you do run into a situation where you do need to charge them in the radio. Just remember to never put alkaline cells into the yellow holder.

You CAN use your AC adapter, WITHOUT ANY battery holder in the radio. I do this all the time. Have had my 106 for years and never hurt anything..
