• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was wondering how to send out alerts or tones on the Quik Call system. Do you have to add each person into the call list? If so how do you do that? Thanks for your time.

It depends on the encoder and the coding schemer you use.

No one here can answer that for you.

What equipment do you use to generate the paging tones?
There are many types of encoders that all work and program differently.

How are the tones set up? (One per person, one per group, special group call tones, all call tones, etc.)
There are as many ways as you can imagine to set up tones for a group.

You question is like asking "How do I call my brother?"
The answer can be anything from, "Yell upstairs", to "on his cell", to "You can't, he's dead".

LOL thanks for the comparison, put it more into perspective lol.. An individual that I know that does programming, is able to send the tone/page to another person that he has programmed in his portable. For example, he will select someone's name from his list, then hit the transmit key. It send out our fire department tones to that person/portable. I guess he has the Tone A/Tone B frequency (hz) and does it. Does that soudn familiar or help out any?

If he is sending it form his portable, and only one radio is opening, then the tones are unique to that radio and not the "fire department's" tones.

Talk to whoever programmed up the system.

If it is two tone he is using you will need to get the info from that person on setting it up on your radio(tones A B Times and alias) Then if your radio is able to send two tone set it up

He gave me the Tone A and B Frequencies. I'm just not sure on how to set it up and how you're able to use the system. He gave me the frequencies (hz) but not the codes. I noticed under the Quik call system it asks for the Tone A hz and Tone B hz then the code.

In the HT1250 CPS for instance, all you need to put in the tone frequency field, is the tone frequency, if it is a valid /\/\ frequency, the code field will fill in automatically, if the tone is other than /\/\, the code field will stay blank. Either way the portable should still decode the tones properly.

I am trying to send the tones (Tone A and Tone B - I have the frequency/hz) to a buddy/members from our department that I program radios for. If I understand correctly you are able to do that, but those members/people have to be in your call list. That where I am confused. Not sure on how to set up the call list, or program the members into my portable and then send out the tones. Any help would be appreciated.

"Controls & Menus", "Menu Items", Check 'Radio Call', in "Radio Call Sub-Menu" check 'Sel Cal'.
"Signaling", "Signaling Configuration", in "Encode" check "Sel Cal". Also check "Basic Sel Cal".
"Signaling", "Quick-Call II System", "System 1", "Basic", check "PTT Sidetone".
"Call", "Quik-Call II Call", "Alias". you can name each page, such as "General Call" then in format, put your 2 tones in.
Now when you enter the menu, you go to that "General Call", hit the PTT button, and the 2-tone page should go out.

Thanks for the info. I got to the point where I was able to transmit the tone out but I believe I have the wrong frequency (hz). It just plays a loud long beep. Is there a webpage or anything that plays the tones and gives the frequency (hz)?

If you are talking about the loud long beep that your HT is making, that is the sidetone, that is there to tell you the tones are going out. You can disable that. If you mean long loud beep on other rx'ing radios over the air, you could be sending out a group call. Yes, there are programs out there that you input the freq and it will play the tone.

Thanks for all of your help, greatly appreciated. Do you happen to know what programs or websites are out there for that?
