• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I put a KT8900D in my Jeep because I would not be out much if it got stolen. It has worked well but recently, the radio has no volume. Being a new Tech operator, I think I might’ve pushed the wrong button somewhere. Nothing in the manual helped me. Any ideas ?

Kirk1959, firstly, welcome to Radio Reference (RR)!

Let me ask... How old is your QYT KT8900D and has it seen a lot of rough duty like off-roading with it? I'm just trying to decide if it could be a failure rather than a wrong button push...

Thanks es 73, Dave K4EET

No sir, not much off reading. Radio is six months old. I keep the windows down to avoid excessive heat. More likely something I fat fingered. Grateful for any help.

Kirk1959, thanks for the information. I used to have a 2004 Jeep Rubicon (TJ) and did a lot of rock crawling which is why I asked. If you think it is just a cockpit error, i.e., fat fingers, I downloaded the manual to have a look at the controls on the front panel and to get a little familiar with the rig. Let me ask some more questions, when you say "the radio has no volume" does that mean the radio is totally silent? Not a peep out of it at all? No beep when you turn it on, no beep on button pushes, no receive audio on any repeater when active, etc.? Does the signal strength indicator increase to the right when a repeater becomes active? If you transmit on a repeater, does your transmitted audio go out (you'll need a working receiver for that test)? By the way, are you an Amateur Radio operator? Please answer each one of those questions. Thanks!
