Hi

I currently have an R2500 for sale and I keep getting the infamous is it blocked or unblocked question.

I have searched, read and become confused.

Here is what is printed on the label of the Icom box:

"IC-2500 #10USA04"

If the number "10" on the label is the key, that would point to an unblocked unit.

If someone knows, would they please share either via a PM or a response to coopermj@dca.net ?

The unit is all packed and I'm trying to get my question answered without unpacking and setting up the unit again.

Thank you,

M Cooper

Quoting from this site Universal Radio: ICOM R2500:
The IC-R2500-10 model is the same as above, but without the frequency gaps and can be purchased via Federal, state or local government or cellular communications provider qualifying purchase order or for export only. This version was discontinued.

Also, on this ICOM America page, you can download the manual as a .pdf file, scroll to the back three pages and look at the designators that are checked. Your manual might have some similar notations that help clarify its intended use. (I know you already packed it.)

I have searched, read and become confused.

Also, if you can share the links that you searched earlier and that provided you confusing information, maybe we can help sift through that information and discover a clearer answer to your question.

Hope this helps,

I think we can close this one

Thank you for replying.

I think I might have answered my own question. I viewed the photo I took of the bottom of the unit. It has the serial number sticker along with a warning that this unit should only be used with local and state governments, etc., etc. I had a unit a while back that I don't remember having that sticker and that unit was blocked.

My conclusion is that this is an unblocked unit.

It was right there in front of me and I couldn't see the trees for the forrest!

Thanks for the help and sorry to have wasted anyone's valuable time.

Regards,

M Cooper

No problem. Good job taking pictures before packing--makes a lot of sense.

You do know you are not supposed to buy or sell an unblocked RX, right?

I know I know, it is the most (almost) stupid thing, especially since all cellular is now digital in the US. You will get nothing but what sounds like squelch noise. Try to get Congress to roll back a law.
