I am in need to analyze the wireless networks 2.4 ghz spectrum. Is there software available to do this? I dont want to buy a seperate spectrum analyzer if the ICOM units will work using a laptop for this purpose.

Thanks!

Not so easy for the Icom to do.

I asked myself this question, since we can receive on the freqs. I would love to employ my 2500 for this purpose.

Can you code?

There's a couple of nice opensource tools out there that are based on WiSpy and AirSleuth/WifiSleuth network card to do analysis. However, those cards are not "audio" receivers, and use chipsets that are specifically geared toward this type of use, i.e. they are not your average atheros or broadcom network adapters.

The key is what it is you want to do with networks. With the Icom you would only be able to:

1) Look for networks
2) See (and hear) channel activity usage

You will NOT be able to easily:

*) Troubleshoot interference + SNRs

Unless you are able to find the appropriate IF tap (dunno to 10.7 is appropriate or not) for WiFi *AND* also have software which can analyze/sniff the WiFi protocol and be able to see re-transmission errors, etc.

I'm a little bummed about this because it'd be a great use of this radio, but there are not a lot of codewriters which are thinking along this same line here.

Here are some links.....

If you wanna blow your mind on some of the nice graphing, charting and cascading waterfall display available for the WiFi spectrum.

I would like to get to this level of monitoring analyzing WiFi....

And also Eakiu for Mac OSX (which I use):
