I have been checking Ham Radio Outlet's website almost daily waiting for the AA battery pack to become available but they don't seem to have any accessories other than Icom's software. Has anyone had any luck buying R30 accessories from them? It's odd that they have had the radio from the start, I got mine there in June, but they don't have accessories.

I purchased the BP-293 AA battery pack on ebay. Ships from Japan

I have not looked into how much power the r30 uses. So I'm guessing, I bet running on alkaline batteries will be disappointing.

A spare rechargeable battery, maybe a solar charger or another source depending on your needs.

What do you want to do with AA batteries?

When I had the Icom R20 I was able to run it off set of alkaline batteries for a good 4-5 hours while my Li-on battery charged at home. Running a portable power source wasn't always convenient.

I have used AA battery packs before while traveling with other radios. They may be more compact than bringing a charger and replacement batteries are never far away. They don’t provide long life but they are handy.

R30 - Bluetooth VS-3 and Kindle HD8 Tablet

I just got the Bluetooth VS-3 and this little device is so cool. There's a volume Up & Down control and 4 other programmable buttons. I have SCAN / UP/ DOWN and VFO/MR programmed. I can leave the R30 on my desk and listen with earbuds or headphones and control it wireless from about 30ft .

This is all done while running the RS-R30A App on my Kindle FireHD 8 also wireless !

You can program 1 of 28 options for each key. (Direction) UP,DOWN,VOL UP, VOL DOWN,SQL UP, SQL DOWN, RF Gain UP, RF Gain Down,ATT,Monitor(Push), Monitor(Hold),VFO/MR,Home CH,BAND,SCAN,
Temporary Skip,SPEECH,MAIN/DUAL,MODE,DUP,PRIO,MW,MUTE,NB,ANL,AFC,REC, or leave it blank.

I picked my VS-3 used on ebay and saved a few bucks.

Tried using Android Auto to display the R30 on vehicle screen but it's so limited that you can only display what google wants you to. Gave up and uninstalled.

Now the RS-R30A on a tablet, at home, is handy so you don't have to squint at the handheld's smaller fonts or use reading glasses.

No way, tossed them and bought another basic set new and wax free.
