R6 Programming Cable

Apologies if this has been discussed. Couldn't find any reference on a quick "scan."

I just bought an R6, mostly for air shows. I have also bought Butel's ARC6 software (mostly because I have used and like their software on other equipment, it works well, and I like the user interface).

I now need a programming cable. I see the pricey Icom offering, as well as some mid-price range cables. I also see some really cheapos on eBay.

I am happy to spend what I need to, but I don't want to spend money needlessly. Does anyone have any experience with really cheap USB cables that worked (or didn't)?

You have easy recourse on eBay for a product that doesn't do what it should. They call it buyer protection, it works. Be confident in eBay, even if you are not about the individual seller.

I'm far less concerned with losing $10 than I am about wasting time on a cable that doesn't work.

I recently bought a cable from a ham radio operator on eBay who sells several different cables for various receivers. This cable has the Prolific chip that comes in the factory IC-R6 cable. The seller worked with me by telephone to try to get Arc6 to load more than 6 or 7 frequencies at a time to the radio - and although we could not do that in the end, I don't think the cable was the reason.
