About a year ago, I bought a nice looking R71A from an Ebay seller it was a "For parts or repair" radio. It had an odd issue where it worked for a few minute then it would POP loudly and the display would disappear or flicker. Letting it cool off would restore it for a few minutes, then it would it would die again in about 15 minutes, tops.

I figured it was a PS issue, and looked and looked for a PS for it, and finally found a decent looking one for a sane price. After looking at the box sitting next to the R71A box next to it for a couple of weeks, I finally decided to swap it out. The radio had been worked on before I got it, and the PS connector was all wrapped up with some of the wiring harnesses near the front panel, so it took a long time to get it loose so I could pull the original PS out. After I put it back together, I fired it up and it received ok, as it did before, but this time, instead of 15 minutes, it ran for over 4 hours straight, and had no issues. So now the question is, should I sell it? I like the 71A a lot, I've had a bunch of them over the last 30 years, but I suppose I could use the money. I'm tempted to do the audio mod to make it sound better and do a little cleanup on it and just add it to my collection, but,,,
