Hello all,

I was playing with my R8600 morning. I was on 162.285 MHz. The mode was set to P25. The radio decoded about 15 TG's i also had the sound but it was garbled. I went to the RR database and the frequency belongs to a system called RENIR and the site is Covey Hill. It is a P25 phase 2 system and most of the traffic is encrypted. The R8600 does not support P25 phase 2 and of course since the traffic is encrypted it would not have made a difference.

Using Proscan i imported the RENIR system in my SDS100. I imported only the Covey Hill site (6 frequencies) and only the departments containing the TG's that the 8600 decoded.. The SDS 100 does not decode any of the TG's and there is no sound at all.

Both radios are connected simultaneously to the same antenna. Any reason why the 8600 decodes the TG's and emits sounds while the SDS100 does not ?

Many thanks

Expected operation for an SDS100 is for the info to flash up on the screen briefly and not emit any sound during a scan. If you hold onto any given encrypted talkgroup you'll see the words ENCRY at top of screen and may hear some garbling

What option did you choose below? "Import" (no lockout set) needs to be selected at this drop down for the SDS to "pause" briefly on encrypted talkgroups. Alternatively if you choose "Don't import" here and subsequently enable ID Search you'll see those encrypted talkgroups pop up as unknowns

Thanks for the info. I believe i did not use that option. Is there a way to configure it another way or do i have to import again and select the option ?

Been monitoring since yesterday afternoon and so far it logged only 2 TG's and one of them is not encrypted. It should have logged at least 15 TG's assuming that de SDS100 can do that.

It can't do that. As soon as it understands that it is an encrypted signal it will immediately skip the call and do not save any info to the SD card. You will only find unencrypted calls in the log, or if it had a glitch it can save an encrypted TG if it stayed on the display long enough.

We have asked Unidens representative here in the forum to forward to Uniden to have this function user selectable, to either avoid all encrypted TGs, as it is now, or to choose to still log and monitor the call with garbled audio or muted audio, to potentially await a non encrypted call on that site or just to log TG's. It's on a wish list since two years ago.
