I have a premium subscription with Radio reference and have downloaded Sentinel software for my BCD536. I am unable to figure out how they work together to get the frequencies that I want from Radio Reference and use Sentinel to download them to my scanner favorites. Can anyone explain how this works? Thanks!

The Sentinel software does not require a premium subscription from Radio Reference. All of the (scanable) frequencies from the RR database are already in the Sentinel database.

When you use the weekly update procedure in Sentinel, all new updates from the RR database are uploaded to the Sentinel database.

The database update procedure is detailed on page 17 of your owner's manual.

You actually don't require a membership to RR at all, because everything for the 436/536 is contained in Sentinal as noted above. Updating your database in Sentinel updates to the latest info in RR.

This updates the Full Database in Sentinel. You can scan using that, or, to improve your experience, create favorites lists from that database. There are training videos to use Sentinel on youtube.

Uniden servers "reach out" to the Radio Reference servers around 9 AM each Monday and download the RR data.

You can use Sentinel to update the HP Master Data base from Uniden anytime after that (allowing time for the download process to complete) to get that data.

In essence by purchasing a "Home Patrol" type of scanner, you sort of have a "backdoor" RR database subscription (which you paid for in the purchase price of the scanner).

The only benefit of an RR premium subscription is if you use ARC 536 software to create your Favorites Lists. You get immediate access to the latest database instead of having to wait until Monday. In other words, if a system is updated on Tuesday, with ARC you can get the data on Tuesday.

Reviewing what is going on in the online RR database where you live can be useful.

By occasionally checking for any colored entries (these denote additions or changes) you can see any modifications you might want to make in your Sentinel favorites lists.

The database update only updates the national database, but if you have owned the radio any amount of time you will be scanning favorites lists and not the full database normally.

Monday updates don't update favorites lists.

I'm pretty sure they "reach out" Sunday night. Then the data is compiled early Monday and is available to the public Monday morning.
