I don't have one but my neighbor does and I programmed it for him. It is electronically the same as the PSR-500 and PSR-600. The only thing I didn't like was it felt light and that feels different when you are use to carrying a commercial HH.

Love the Pro-106

I've had the 106 for awhile now and really love it. The downside is that there are so many bells and whistles, sometimes its easy to get lost. My top recommendation is to get the programming cable, software (I use Win500) and subscribe to Radio Reference to load frequencies in the scanner -this makes setting up and maintaining this great radio much simpler. Once you get your feet wet filling it with your local frequencies, you can start to fiddle with the finer settings in the software, like setting up the led lights (I use red for fire, blue for police, etc), backlight and other features.
Overall, one of my favorite scanners (I have over 20!). Good sensitivity (although my old Pro-96 seems slightly better at picking up digital signals) and well constructed.

Hope that helps - enjoy! You get alot more out of this (and other radios) when you read the various postings on RR - there are alot of nice tips I have picked up that have enhanced my enjoyment of the radio.

Regards,
Bob

Hi Tim.

I have several of them, (one of which is the GRE equivalent - PSR500) and love them. I also use Win500 and programming is a breeze. Programming seems much easier and much more intuitive than the Uniden machines with or without the software.

I tried some of the 396XT Uniden models, but ended up returning them in favor of the Pro106,

I seem to get better battery life, and a little better sensitivity compared to the Uniden also.

As far as desktop models, if you decide to go that route, I have both the GRE PSR600 and the Uniden 996XT. I use the GRE for the most part, and the Uniden as a backup.

Remember, there is no "best" scanner for everyone, just what works best for you - it is entirely a matter of opinion. They are both fine radios - but after using both brands in some pretty demanding situations, my all around choice would be the RS/GRE radios.

Cheers.

Clearly the best scanner EVER. Has no problems at all with the MECA system. Crystal clear on 100% of transmissions - even ones the users with real radios can't hear!
