I was wondering if there is anyway to adjust contrast on the display for the Radio Shack Pro-43, checked the manual but didn't see anything related to that. My display is getting hard to see, thanks for any help.

No, contrast adjustment wasn't a thing on these older scanners.

It's a very good scanner, from back in the day that could do mil air.

With it's age more than likely some failure of the display and don't think any parts will be available to fix unless you find a donator radio that isn't working, but the display still works.

The big issue with the PRO-43 was keypad going bad with the keys stopped working.

An LCD screen with poor contrast could be due to a capacitor that is going bad also. You would need the schematic, plus some basic equipment such as a soldering iron and digital multi-meter. It's not a repair to attempt unless you have some experience in repairing electronics.

In this thread on a Pro-95 with contrast issues with the LCD, it was suggested that disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon cable that connects the display to the board could wipe the contacts and cure the problem. I don't know what the Pro--43 looks like inside, but keep in mind that the ribbon cable and connector are delicate parts.

Probably the best course of action is to do no harm and live with it as is. The LCD on my Radio Shack Pro-2053 began blurring some years ago. It's readable enough to use the radio and has not gotten much worse, so I just left it alone.

Thank you everybody for your suggestions. I don't think I ever used the backlight, so I'll try that. I don't want to take the scanner apart, might introduce more problems. Even though I have been an Electronics Technician for 40 years I am 70 years now and can't articulate and don't have that dexterity anymore. When I was younger I modified many scanners with SMD components but now I won't attempt it. The scanner works great, it just the display is dim. Thanks again for your help, all good suggestions.
