radio shack pro-62 scanner

I have a radio shack pro-62 scanner. I havent used it in awhile. I turn it on (fresh batteries) and it scans but is not picking anything up. I did a regular scan thru all freq and i get nothing. I switched antennas and doesnt change at all. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Any help would be great

Welcome to the RR forums. Please let us know where you're located so we can get eyes on the database and get an idea of where your emergency services are operating & if your scanner is the right tool for the job. Radio systems have greatly evolved since the pro-62 was new 31 years ago. Many agencies have moved to digital operations & your scanner is analog only. We need more info from you to be able to assist and possibly make a recommendation for a more up to date scanner

Have you tried programming a constant-signal frequency such as the National Weather Service for your area?
You said you "did a regular scan through all frequencies". Is that just the programmed freqs? Have you done a band search?
Even if most agencies in your area have switched to digital, you should still hear a 'buzz' noise when they transmit.
Make sure the squelch is turned down and the volume turned up.

As mentioned above, try weather service. If your not to far from a good size airport, try scanning civilian airband in 25k steps. Also, check your antenna connector to see if it spins. Should be no rotation

Thanks everyone I own a handheld transmitter I send it from him, but the scanner cannot pick it up I know that the model is old, but in my country owning such devices is not easy

I disassembled the device I found that it contains 3 pcb board This is the first board and I think it belongs to RF 4 capacitors were changed The experiment was conducted and it was found that the problem exists and has not been solved

This is the second board Using AI programs They advised me to change the 2 capacitors indicated in red A note was found while the device was working and the crystal indicated in blue was touched The search stops and a noise is heard Also the problem was not solved Advise me how to solve the problem

You need to try receiving the NOAA weather frequencies in your area. That will let you know if there is a problem with the RF portion of the scanner. It is possible for the scanner to scan and not stop scanning if the receiver is not working. Check if the squelch is turned up all of the way. If you open the squelch, do you hear noise? For a scanner that old, it is common for electrolytic capacitors in the audio circuit to fail and you will not hear anything. It would help if you let us know your city, county, and state and what you wish to monitor so we can check if the scanner is capable of receiving anything in your area.

Thank you for your interest Previously answered I tried to send from another device on frequency 145.00, but I could not be heard on the scanner. Knowing that he searches non-stop As for my hearing of noise, the device emits noise normally, but does not pick up any frequency

Actually, I am outside the United States I am in Egypt, but as I said, I confirmed that the device had a malfunction when I sent from another device and the scanner did not detect me at all.

Have you confirmed there are active analog frequencies in your area by using a working radio? Perhaps there's simply nothing to listen to around you? Nothing is Radioreference documented for Egypt. Besides the scanner is 30+ years old!!!!!! Keying up a transceiver in close proximity to it is never a good idea

Yes, I'm sure there are analog frequencies in my area I receive it on another device besides the one with the problem I also know that the device is old, but having such devices here is difficult
