Just a quick FYI- The Seaview Square store in Ocean has nothing left- no stock (worth looking at) when I stopped in today. The Monmouth Mall store has been closed for some time and is gone. No one mentioned it, but West Long Branch had closed a while ago. Shrewsbury is staying open, but had no 668 radios at all(?)

If anyone picked up a extra 668 they want to let go at a reasonable price than please PM me.

TY.

People are flipping them left and right on eBay!! None really left in Nj. Prices are still cheaper then online price on RadioShack!!

There is one right now on Ebay for $199.99...not bad compared to the actual price. Item Location: Belleville, NJ...LOL figures

I'll likely pick one up, but I'd like someone to confirm they can actually hear the NJICS with this unit.

I can pick it up for the most part. Ironically, the issue I was having was that I couldn't hear it in my bedroom on the 2nd floor of my house. Last night while doing a side by side with my 436, I found the 436 had the same problem and I have never noticed it until now. Overall, I think the 436 does a better job with TDMA. Type 1 P25 there is very little difference between the 2.

It really depends. The closeness of audio quality in TDMA formats on any phase 2 capable is really a debatable topic that could go non-stop in a forum of its own. Some claim the Whistler, GRE and RS P2 radios decodes better then Uniden models and visa-versa.

I'm listening to the NJ ICS on the 668 right now.

I just posted this in the main forum, I found that one of the frequencies were not functioning on my local tower. Seems that radio repair disabled that voice channel and now everything is coming in clear.

In regards to the RadioShack Pro668 ( what this forum is suppose to be about anyway) where does iScan and EZ Scan get their updates for scanning? Is it from here on RadioReference in realtime for updates?

driving around get no 700 rx from any 700 system - NJ or Rockland yet on my XT decodes all TG's
all setting , with supplied ant; freq's, sites, have been checked no ATT, all the same settings for all my other trunk systems even with an out side antenna no joy; then when you least expected a TG shows up but doesn't hold it long enough to fully decode ....

Is it safe to say you are " NOT" happy with the RS 668 scanner?

'm listening to NJ ICS phase 2 TDMA on my pro668 and all transmissions are coming through loud and clear including Newark fire, on my brothers Uniden 536 the NFD audio sounds horrible and the radio misses some transmissions

I like it for the price $99- VHF is great, trying out different antennas, the 700 nj system just doesn't cover Bergen well enough for the radio to decode - its hit or miss, Alpine site would be better when it comes on line;
how can I just jump to a channel or tg instead of scanning thru the lists - and the scan speed seems slower than a XT

After now owning the Pro 668. I am skeptical about its decoding capabilities. It does have trouble decoding P25 overall. It gets humorous hits from the system and it makes broken attempts at decoding TDMA and even FDMA talkgroups but not very well. My Pro-106 I believes decides FDMA talkgroups just as well. Im skeptical

My Comments on the Pro-668

I've been messing with scanners for over 30 years and computer programmable scanners for around 17 years and I have to say that the Pro-668 is a bear to program and understand. However, it has some features that I've never seen on a scanner. It will RECORD any channel and it has a huge storage system that can even be expander with a larger memory card. It's "Virtual Scanner" system is much easier to understand than any scanner I've used. I've never even used the virtual scanners on any of my previous scanner because they were a “female dog” to get to and use. If I was going out of town, I just waited till I got where I was going and flashed the scanner with the new location files. I’m still having a little trouble understand the file system though.

I’ve had my Pro-668 for 10 days; when I first got it I had a lot of time to play. It took me at least 4 hours to get the thing programmed right. I’m still not totally clear on the relationship of the Playlist and Playsets. Yea and I don’t like the fact they call them “Play”lists rather than “Scan”lists.

I don’t have any TDMA systems in my area, so I can’t comment on that. All of the major 7 cities and counties in my area are either analog (2) trunking or digital (5). On the digital systems the scanner seems to have a little trouble stabilizing right at the beginning of the transmission. A couple of times I’ve not be able to understand an entire transmission – Virginia Beach. On the analog systems, it doesn’t seem to have any problems at all.

One thing that really impresses me is the scanners ability to receive “close-in” digital signals. My Pro-106 is almost unusable for my cities P25 P1 system. Also, the Pro-668 seems to be very sensitive for distant signals. I’m sitting in Phoebus, VA and I’m able to copy Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth. The Virginia Beach transmitter is at least 35 miles from me.

More when I get it.

When looking at the NJICS talkgroups under the Trunked Radio Systems tab on the PRO 668 software program, under the category "DMode" at one point originally the TDMA talkgroups said AUTO, now all talkgroups say Digital. Does this matter first off and if it does, how can I change it back to auto?

I ask this, because I'm scanning the system and today for the first time I heard transmissions CM Crew 36. However that's all i've heard. Tonight Medcen Comm 1 has been active and it pops up on my scanner with NO audio. You can tell when the mobile radio is being used because the S, signal bars are very low, however when the base radio talks the signal looks perfect however I have no audio on either. Looking for suggestiosns or answers. Those are the only two talkgroups i've remotely seen on the scanner for that system.

Thanks.

Just some info Playlist are list of channels you want to scan, Playsets are are banks where you can put any combo of playlists, for example: you can create a playlist for just Newark fire or for all Departments in Essex county or anything you want, then you can add the lists that you create to any Playset you can also rename playlist and playsets,
