Got my old pro 96 out and started playing with it , noticed that harford county was still coming through on the old 460.000 freq. Is it possible that could be simulcasting on it ??
Perhaps they use it as their FTO frequency for pagers and other devices. 460.600 is listed as a Fire Dispatch frequency, so likely a simulcast of their dispatch talk group.
You should certainly be able to copy Cecil on FIRST from Newark with your SDS100. Have you tried an upgraded 700/800 MHz antenna or changing location--even temporarily--as a check?
The 460.6 frequency with 136.5 PL tone is Harford County Fire dispatch. It is simulcast with TGID 10511 on the Harford County trunked system. Harford County is part of the Central Maryland Area Regional Communications (CMARC) trunked system.
FIRST coverage just over the border in that area of Delaware has been spotty according to other users. But they were using non-optimized scanner receivers. I would make sure to equip your sds100 with a Remtronix 7/800 antenna to get the best performance.
Yea, in-building probably doesn't work when trying to receive a system designed for on-street coverage, particularly when well removed from the system's intended service area. It might work outside though.
I live N or Newark just over the DE/Maryland line, near the PA line and can't hear MD First even with an outside antenna. I expect a 700 mhz yagi would be enough but not sure. Plus trees in the way does not help.
I can monitor Cecil County from the Jarrettsville area of Harford County. I am unable to hear it from my home location in Baltimore County using an attic antenna. The FIRST system does not seem to cover much outside of its intended area.
There are two subsites that provide coverage in the northeastern area of Cecil County. Both are located only a few miles from a Delaware border, so it's likely they are using directional antennas to shape their coverage areas to the south and west away from Delaware.
