:?: Does anyone here own the Radio Shack Pro-99 racing scanner? If so, does it seem to be a pretty good radio for normal scanning? Especially since it has text tags.

I own the Pro 99 and think it is a great conventional scanner. In the 800 Mhz range it's more sensitive than my Pro 96. Great size to carry around. Radio Shack should make a digital trunktracker that is as good as this radio is on the conventional side.

How about the display and keypad backlighting? How is it, and are the 2 keys on the side backlit also?

The backlighting is great. The 2 keys on the side are also backlit. I paid $160.00 for mine several weeks ago. You may also want to wait and look at the Uniden 246XLT due out soon. I think it's going to be in the $220.00 range. I wanted mine to take to NYC on a recent visit. I also purchased the WIN99 software to make programing a breeze. Good luck.
