• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Here is a suggestion that might 'fill the bill' for a few RadioReferenceReaders...!! I have recently run across an eBay listing for some units designed for long haul truckers that are known as 'RadioBoxes'...or 'SlipSeat' units. These are aimed at the trucker who might drive many different rigs and wants an easy way to move his 'electronics' from one truck to another. These resemble aluminum suitcases and come in a variety of configurations, sizes and prices. Most of them seem to be 'branded' with the K40 label, but there are quite a few shops who sell them under a couple of brands. Do a 'Google' search for "Radio Boxes" and CB and you will find many listings. I think the common manufacturer of these might be http://slipseatcb.com/radio boxes.htm They have about a half dozen 'ready to fill' boxes shown there...prices range from $155 to $375 depending of course on size, fittings, etc. You can also find some listings on eBay from $110 and $120... These are designed to hold an AM-FM radio and a CB but most any 2 scanners would also fit in the basic unit...and the company also has 'add ons' to expand the capacity. I know this solution would not be for everyone...but...might be 'just the ticket' for a few.
You could also add a battery pack to one of these to make a 100% portable monitoring station, put a ham radio in one, add a small cooler for beer....!! Use your imagination!!!
Here are a few photos of these boxes...both empty and fitted.

I took an interest in those awhile back. Then I realized they'd probably only fit in a semi-tractor's cab, and nothing I'd be driving. They would make great enclosures for field day! A little on the expensive side by the time you get everything you need.
