Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know if the Radioddity software, for the Radioddity GM-30, can import frequencies/data?

Also, can the antenna be removed for use with an external antenna?

I ordered one, but have not yet received it.

Thanks,
Randall Bonin

First Post and I have two GM-30's and already replaced the antennas with Nagoya NA771G's (SMA-Male - the radio itself as you can see above in pic has SMA-female).

My measurement of the SWR of the OEM antennas are around 2.1 - 2.2, the NA771G's measure out at 1.1 so these are better antenna but they are longer so buy almost three times longer so maybe too long for your intended use/storage.

Back to OP, I can't get the Radiooddity SW to write to, or read from, the GM-30's - However downloaded GM-30 SW DOES work to do the firmware update.

I too just purchased two of these radios, yet to receive them. I am posting to both introduce myself but also so I get notifications of updates. For the price, they seem like nice little radios based on reviews and what I have seen and heard in videos. Good entry level GMRS for me???

Greetings
I can get the radioddity software to read and write but not to perform the software update..I am using Windows 7...I am wondering
if the software has the nessasary compilation to open the bin file or does my windows 7 need some additional tweaking to assist
the software?.

I dont think I understand this software. If I read from the radio, it does not show any of my settings currently set in the radio. How do I know if I am looking at my radio settings or just the default settings of the program? I hope CHIRP works on these soon.

I ordered one of these. The receive audio was good, but people could barely hear me talking on the radio. After some back and forth with support I sent it back, and picked up the Wouxon 805G - more money, but it worked, no issues. I heard others having the same issue. I like Radioddity radios, but this one got returned.

Well, that is not reassuring lol. Was that on a repeater or no repeater? How far away were the people? How far away from the repeater if using one? Sorry, I am still in my return window, so I am asking questions to see if I want to keep these or not.

I wonder if they are transmitting in narrowband instead of wideband (wideband being more typical on GMRS).

The audio was tested via a repeater about 5 or 6 miles away, and I also tested it with another HT that was 50 or so feet away. My transmit audio via the mic in the radio was very low, and hard to hear in both cases. I know of 2 other people who had the same issue, but only know for certain that one of them returned the unit. The receive audio in the speaker was fine from the repeater, and of course the HT at about 50 or so feet away. If the transmit audio was fine I would have kept the unit.

Has anyone successfully modified the boot message on the GM-30's? My message areas are greyed out and stuck on "Welcome Radioddity"
