If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a few of the RT-470 10w (not the L or X). Solid RX across all bands, including air AM band. TX on high power is around 8.5-9 W at 430-460mzh. 11-12.5 W in the 140ish range. Have the ability to scan per band, battery is beefy, USBc charging capable (not rapid).

Spoke to a salesperson with Radtel. Apparently the RT-470L and X models are the 5W versions (might push 8 on high power in 140mhz range) and have the capability for voice inversion scrambling. The RT-470X is supposed to be a newer chipset with a nicer display, but it is still cheaper on AliExpress and Radtel shops than the 470L. Not sure why the price discrepancy. I would have figured the L model would be cheaper based on "older model" description.

Also look at the RT-890 (aka Ruyage uv58plus). Smaller radio, solid 4.5 - 5.5 W across bands. AM airband rx isnt as clean as the rt-470, but the voice inversion scrambler is an actual useable feature (groups 6-8).

UPDATE:
Received the 470X. A few things. First of all, the receive audio is excellent. Sensitivity is most definitely a strong point in this radio. Surprisingly enough, it receives AND transmits from 100-520 Mhz without gaps. ( AM AC band excluded). Incredible. Tunning steps are on point for our country. 6.25 and (2.5 X 3) 7khz.
Radio feels solid in the hand.
Keypad well lit, buttons feel firm
Display is in color with nice large numbers

Here is my one and only complaint.
This radio has a VERY loud and annoying squelch tail. I don't understand what it is about these Chinese radios that pretty much all have this issue. Wouxun, Baofeng, and now I see Radtel has it too. May not be on all radios but a good majority of them do from what I see on other forums. They have a feature on the menu (STE) to eliminate that but it only applies to radio to radio two way communications. Receiving local emergency response traffic is almost impossible without hearing that loud tail noise. Nonetheless, I like this little radio.

I found this statement from the producer in the FCC filing, i dont know why they would sell 4 different models if they are identical....

FCC ID : 2AZSA-RT470X
Model Number: RT-470X,RT-470,RT-470L,RT-470P
To Whom It May Concern:
We, The Xiamen Radtel Electronics Co., Ltd hereby declare that the models are identical except the model names & cover designs .
Except for the different above, no other modification is performed.

How fast does it scan channels ? I certainly wouldn't expect it to match a dedicated scanner.
That said, the Radioddity GD-77 I have with the OpenGD77 software scans very fast, so that's what I compare every other CCR to.

As you said, not very fast.

Hey dude,

I had the same issue on a Rt-470 and the rt-890. For both radios I had to enable the tail noise clear. Screens attached for the proprietary CPS and Chirp software. You will find it under the "optional settings" to enable the clear.

Unfortunately I have already gone through all the settings you suggested with no changes. The tail elimination feature clearly says ( HT to HT ). I’m not using to HTs. I’m monitoring local first responder traffic. Problem still exists.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I am going to sell it at the next Hamfest.

I have a Radtel RT-490 with GPS. It is likely a similar hardware design. Yes. it is sensitive, too sensitive to use with my base antenna (no other radio I have has that problem); but that has not cause a problem with its own HF antenna. On VHF aircraft, it works well. I wish I could enable AM on the part of the UHF aircraft band that it covers. I have the GPS normally turned off to save battery life; but I like having it there in case I need to tell someone where I am in the mountains where I do not get cell coverage. (Some guy in a review called the GPS useless--it is very useful and does work. It would have been nice if APRS were in the radio.) I think it looks nicer than the RT-470 if that matters. Also, it has 2 knobs, one for thinks that need a click and the other a simple potentiometer for volume. It also really does 220 unlike the UV-17L which I (and others)measured at 5 mw on 220.

Does it have a loud squelch tail on VHF/UHF public service bands? The 470X is loud and as you turn up the volume, the squelch tail noise gets louder. All the settings are useless for this including the squelch levels.

I noticed that when I first turned it on. Later, after messing a lot with settings and programming the radio memoriees, I do not noticed a problem. I have no idea, what, if anything, that I changed.

Sorry to bump an older thread. Anyone programmed one of these to use a GMRS repeater?

I am trying to order RT470X from AliExpress. I want to order the RT470X AND get the larger battery at 3800maH. Any suggestions how to order the RT470X with larger battery? The only choice I see is 2600maH. The reason I prefer the RT470X are the great bundles offered.

I think my only option is to order the RT470L (no bundles available) and get the 3800maH battery included. If I get the RT470L, what speaker mike should I buy? I assume any speak/mike compatible with UV-5R should work. Correct?
I assume the 470L and 470X are identical except for the battery size.

Did I miss anything from AliExpress? Thanks
