I find it interesting that the users here don't respond to anything that has the words Google Earth attached to it wonder why that is?
but I have an idea for you, post your file over at RailroadForums.com, you might get a few replies. But don't bet on it they are the same way, I just don't get it.

True enough Grog, but there are a few that have it and don't use it, it might be too complicated for them. They prefer to use other software that you can't make overlays for. As far as I know GE is the only one that is capable of that feature if there are others let me know.

Because it's about as accurate as a bow and arrow substituting a boomerang for the arrow.

Interesting comment, but at least in some instances your comment is incorrect, I made a waypoint by a historical marker some time ago, when I uploaded the waypoint into GE, it was within 5 feet from where I was, so it is not inaccurate all the time. And I suppose what you use is more accurate and you can also make your own overlays right? In one of my previous replies I invited others to show me a program that has the same capabilities as GE, know what nobody offered up anything, now is your chance, show us what you have.
oh BTW, FCVP199, your round house KMZ is good enough to see the round houses clearly in GE good work! Spot on!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FCVPI99/?yguid=243645283

if you know of any new locations please email them to me FCVPI99@YAHOO.COM

This is GREAT!!! I love it. works fine now.

THANKS!!!!!!

Steve

FYI, the Colorado & Midland terminal in Colorado Springs, CO was bought by the Van Briggle Pottery Comapny in 1955 and has been producing world famous pottery and tiles since. Artus Van Briggle actually started his Buisness in 1899, and it has been in production ever since.

Brian, If you would like, I can go take some pictures and post them on the Yahoo Group site. just let me know.

I havent responded because I feel that it against the Ethics policy where I work to show the location of some detectors and control points on a map for the internet to see...

Has nothing to do with google earth.

+1

Not to mention I think Google's "let's show every street in america at street level" policy is total BS.

"i like the street view whats wrong with it?? you see the same thing in a car dont you?"

It's not the images but the map that sucks raw eggs. The major metro areas are such a sea of blue I can't read the map and that blue goo is spreading to the point the whole thing will be useless.

QNB, please don't search for nits in my hair. I write in broader terms than most so you may consider my statement to be entirely correct. There are always exceptions to be found in the narrow view but I don't look at the world under a microscope.

All the Google on line mapping and software such as Earth use the same on line database so what you find in one you find in all. Sure, in the US urban areas that have been GPS mapped out may be within a few hundred feet give or take but that's not true of I'd say about 80% of the world. Just to make matters worse much is user supplied information, a Wiki if you will. Venture outside and you'll see what I mean provided you are familiar or have someone in the area who is. For example they made a mess of Carnarvon WA Australia, totally misplaced my friend's house in Gawler SA and can't even find Moscow NY or Nixon NJ at all but I've been there and know they exist, not postage stamp towns either. Most of the images are years old, some decades old and fuzzy as a wooly bear caterpillar, totally useless IMO.

Anyway it's a nice toy but when it comes to accurate mapping and locating specific structures it leaves a lot to be desired. Oh, there are some interesting Easter Eggs in the software, see if you can find them.
