What towers do the CSX Railroad police use and which talk groups would they be under ( CSXTPD1, CSXTPD2, and/or RAILCOM)? I am in the Northville area (2/6) and use a Unication G4.

They are often on the following towers in southeast Lower Michigan:

  • Detroit Simulcast.
  • Flat Rock.
  • Monroe County Simulcast.
  • Northville.
  • Wayne County Simulcast.

I am in the Plymouth area and use both the Northville and Wayne County Simulcast and never hear anything. I have a Unication G4 if that matters. Any ways I can get it to work?

Using a unification G4 works better than a lot of scanners, so no, that does not matter. From first hand information, CSX Police and others that are in the Plymouth area are using the rail frequency radios they have due to the limited range and areas they are patrolling and who they need to communicate with.

For some reason, CSXTPD 1 and 2 do not ever have any communication while I am on the Northville or Wayne County Simulcast towers. Is there some other TG that CSX PD uses?

I rarely hear CSX on the MPSCS, anyone with any other information please let me know if I am wrong, but the only times I hear them on that system is when they are testing radios. I know for a fact they use the AAR band plan radios because most of what they are doing is local stuff in the rail yards and they need to be able to communicate crews/tower/managers/ect……

I notice CSX Police activity occasionally on CSXTPD1, most recently at the end of July. I'm mostly monitoring the Detroit simulcast and that's where I'm seeing them. I recall several years ago hearing them testing a radio on CSXTPD1 when I was on the Southfield Fwy driving back from Metro Airport. That time I was probably on the Wayne Co simulcast. I've never heard anything on CSXTPD2. I do know that they use their MPSCS radios to talk with other agencies and RR's and vice versa. Infrequently.

CN and CP Rail seem to have the most activity on MPSCS, probably because they communicate with their dispatch on their respective MPSCS talk groups.
