Yep, that helped. Thank you. I should have looked there. All fixed!

yup
What is the difference between a dispatch TG, a status TG, and a Tac TG? My guess would be - dispatch TG is the primary TG - status TG is for checking licenses, license plates, criminal histories, etc - Tac TG is for special events or major emergencies. Peter Sz

If I remember correctly...

It may have changed with the new system, but Raleigh-Wake 911 had one TC that dispatched all calls for service for PD Raleigh. This was Raleigh-1 (I think). After a call was dispatched, the car(s) responding would switch to another channel to tell the station they were on scene and would use that same channel to communicate with the station while on scene. I think they had more than one of these status channels.

They also had a DCI channel used for identifying vehicle registrations, driver’s license records and the like.

The dispatch talkgroups are all patched together as one talkgroup right now. Though your scanner will show any of the various dispatch talkgroups, the officers hear the same thing no matter which one they're on. The intent was that one day, when RPD decided to go with multiple dispatch channels, the change could be made by punching a few buttons on the console instead of reprogramming everyone's radio. That would also let 911 patch and unpatch groups together, depending on call volume, number of dispatchers available, etc. The officer would tune to their "home" dispatch channel, and wouldn't have to worry about who was patched to who. But, it doesn't look like dispatch will be split up anytime soon, so when the next reprogramming occurs (probably early next year), it will be back to one dispatch talkgroup and two status talkgroups.

-Dispatch is for dispatching (<grin>).
-Status is for routine requests with dispatchers (getting wreckers, report numbers, further information that doesn't need to be on the main dispatch channel, etc).
-TAC channels are for talkaround among the officers, usually within the same district. "Routine chit-chat" channels, if you will. Dispatchers don't monitor those.
-OPS channels are for crime scenes, talking between districts, etc. Dispatchers can monitor these.

"Talkaround:"

To add a nuance, the term "Talkaround" refers to simplex communication between officers, usually on the repeater output frequency, but not through the repeater. This would be short-range, on-scene transmissions.

On conventional systems, they would take place on the TAC channel (because that's where everyone on-scene is listening). I haven't seen a discussion about how this would take place on a trunked system without each officer tuning the radio to a specific RF channel.

You're right, I should have used another term besides "talkaround". The TAC channels are, of course, trunked and repeated. They do have 2 simplex frequencies available, in case of coverage/signal penetration issues, but I think they're very rarely used.
