To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a 5550e programming with CPS16. Just added a new local Ham conventional DMR Repeater. Added a Digital Channel with the right RX/TX Freqs, CC and SL. Created a Digital contact with the Local Talk group ID and associated that Digital Contact and the Contact name on the TX of the Digital Channel. I can Transmit out and got a successful radio check but I'm now seeing what appears to be lots of traffic I'm not hearing. The signal bar indicator activates and the green light flashes like there is an on going transmission but I cant hear audio and no Radio ID seen. I do occasionally hear audio and see a radio ID appear. Any ideas on what might be going on here? And what this "missed traffic" I'm seeing might be? I believe the repeater is also a Motorola, if that makes a difference. This is my first DMR venture so not sure if I missed something. Thanks

It's either another talkgroup on the same time slot active or the other time slot is active. Hard to say for sure without something like an SDR

Or youre just receiving interference on that frequency which isn't related to the repeater at all.

Thanks, the frequency pair does have a second talkgroup used for Brandmeister traffic. Is there any way to monitor the channel for any talkgroup activity regardless of whether or not its associated with the single Talkgroup ID I have defined on the TX on the Digital channel? Or do I have to know all the Talkgroups and build a digital channel for every one and associate the individual talkgroup IDs 1 per channel?

Would not a scanner set to SLOT x and a Wildcard for Talkgroup not pass all traffic on SLOT x?
Well, yes a wildcard would work. But there is no way to make the 5550e do that

That is why I posted SCANNER
I'm assuming OP is asking specifically about the radio. I'm sure he doesn't want to spend $300 on a scanner just to find out what other TG's/TS's are active

The OP does not say radio they ask is there a way to do it so my answer stands.
I ran several scanners logging data for our old Analog 800 Type 2 Trunking System to log what was being used.
If you have the money for a DMR repeater you have the money for logging equipment.

Yes, the OP stood up a repeater on Brandmeister and doesnt know how to figure out what talkgroups it uses.

Really?

Or, the OP found a repeater that has access to BM, and they added it to the codeplug, including the contact for local use, and since this is their first try with DMR, they need a bit of coaching and suggestions on how traffic can be heard instead of just looking at a blinky light.

My suggestion.....look on the repeater's BM page to see last heard talkgroups. It can be a bit tricky to get there, so I'll include an example repeater.

You might be able to edit the address so it will point to the repeater you can access.

Use the tools on that page to see what TGs are in use, then program them into the XPR.

Have fun!

Not that I know of on a Motorola radio.

That's what I had to do here, the only repeater I can reach reliably from my house isn't on Brandmeister but regardless, I had to put in a channel for every TG I wanted to hear. I usually use only 2 or 3 of the TG's but I often see the radios lit up displaying there's something else out there. (by the receive light, not on the screen). Mine is a 6550 but the same thing would apply.
