Listening to all the RCMP channels today I noticed noises on 155.7000 I then looked around on the digital modes website ( http://www.kb9ukd.com/digital/ ) because I swore I heard this noise before on one of the samples there, and as it turns out its is DES encryption. So this channel is definately encrypted as was suspected in the database, but take note that voice is aslo heard from time to time but from my vantage its been too faint to discern.

Agreed, they have used DES on this channel for a long long time. From the 'clarity' of the sound, I'd suspect it's being used in Cochrane or via a very powerful tower (akin to A4) in Calgary.

The C-series channels often have similar sounding traffic.

I think depending on tone this is Tac 2 or C5.
Definitely DES, but I have heard clear voice on there more than a few times. More often than not though, it is DES. It is BOOMING here in Edmonton most of the time.

When our elected dictator (a.k.a. PM) has been in Regina, his entourage has always been in the clear including his security. The last time the PM was here (that flat tire incident) I remember his security beeking about the cold. The only REAL cold day we've had this winter, and the PM was in town. Hmmm I wonder if it was coincidence. ;)

Richster.

Does the DES channel is tone squelch when in clear.

If that chennel uses tone while not in DES it's a good way to monitor without having to listen to the noise. I have used that trick in past. Try to figure out what the tone is and program radio that way, then in the clear you will hear voice coms, without tone... well that sucks.
