Looks like the RCMP has started to switch their system over from EADS (Tait) equipment to Motorola.

Local site is now broadcasting a system ID of 99B and a WACN of BEE00. Site ID has also changed.

I just swept the band here and nothing yet in my area. Is it Phase 1 or is it going to be a Phase 2 system?

It’s advertising Phase 2 in the bandplans but I haven’t seen any Phase 2 traffic yet.

OK That matches what I have heard. The new system will be Phase 2 and that's why the changeout.

It will be interesting to see which builds out faster. PSRN or RCMP. Provincially both systems are about the same size in infrastructure like sites etc although PSRN will have more users.

Time flies when your spending the taxpayers money lol

It would have been nice if both levels of government would work together and build one system for all to use. I know it’s a far fetched idea but seems to be happening in other provinces.

When I was at a site doing some work the RCMP were also in the same building and had a nice rack that was all locked up. I could see Tait repeaters all stacked up in there. Wonder why the switch?

I heard sideways compatibility with other systems. Tait hardware dosent play well with others.

The RCMP did acceptance tests on everything and settled on Motorola equipment for the user equipment.

At least the hardware is being re used rather than just sledgehammered.
